Trustworthy is the 1st point of the scout law and my parents got the plaque to honor me because I’m an Eagle Scout and they always thought I was trustworthy. The Boy Scouts were offering the Pilars which are the points of the scout law to raise money for the new building. The building was dedicated in 2002.

On Friday, March 21st, our dear friend and fellow Kiwanian, Laurie Schotz, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Laurie was transported to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas, where she passed.

Laurie was not only an incredible friend but also an extraordinary human being. Her kindness, energy, and passion touched everyone who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of calling her a friend.

Laurie’s Kiwanis journey began in Indiana in 2013. She later joined the Roswell Kiwanis Club in 2016, where she served as Membership Chair, welcoming many new members to the group. In fact, her most recent recruit was inducted just days before her passing, on Tuesday, March 18th. Laurie served as President of the Roswell Kiwanis Club in 2019-2020 and, in 2024, became the Executive Director of the Southwest District of Kiwanis.

Beyond her dedication to Kiwanis, Laurie had a deep love for animals. She rescued many, including her horse Roy, her mule Roscoe, and Ahab, her three-legged dog. She also found comfort in knowing that her beloved dog Kermit and her horse Red were waiting to greet her in heaven.

We will miss you dearly, Laurie. Your friendship, leadership, and compassion will never be forgotten.

In Memoriam: Executive Director Laurie Schotz

Dear Southwest District of Kiwanis,

It is with a heavy heart that I share the devastating news of the passing of our beloved Executive Director, Laurie Schotz.

This loss is deeply felt throughout our district, and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.

Laurie was an invaluable member of our Kiwanis family. Her unwavering dedication to revitalizing our district, her profound commitment to her community, and her passionate advocacy for the children we serve were truly inspiring.

We understand this news will be met with great sadness, and we want to assure you that we are here to support you during this time of grief.

I will share details regarding memorial services and opportunities to honor Laurie's memory as they become available.

In the coming days, please extend compassion and understanding to one another as we navigate this period of mourning.

Let us join together in remembering Laurie Schotz, and keep her family in our thoughts and prayers.

With deepest condolences,

Governor Don Townsend
