Where you will get the feel of home as you sit down to enjoy your meal. We want you to feel welcome as you look around and get a feel of how much we value family and friends. We hope that you get that feeling because everything about Z’s says family and friends. At Z’s you will get a sense and taste of the history in this family through some of the recipes that have been handed down for generations. Z has always enjoyed cooking, as a young girl. She was a member of the 4H Club where she competed in cooking competitions. She would sit at the counter and watch her Grandmother “Sis” cook greens, cornbread, candied yams etc… During the holidays, the kitchen would seriously heat up as her Grandmother cooked for nine children. Her grandmother would whip up cakes and pies like nobody’s business!!! She would bake 20 plus cakes and pies that would line the pantry. Z found this fascinating, and would just sit and observe for hours. She now cooks those same desserts and has past them down to her younger cousins and her kids. Z had always thought that her male cousins and her sons should know how to cook, so she has shown several of her male cousins how to cook/bake and her sons also cook and bake. On the walls are a few of the old recipes, where the paper it’s written on is old, worn and written on whatever Z could find at the time, as she was in a hurry to write it down because the family member’s memory of it was not that great. In Z's family, the older generation of cooks did not write recipes down; they cooked from memory and taste. So whenever recipes were given to Z she would always write them down and promised the elder that if anyone in the family ever needed the recipe, she would have it and would be able to pass it down. So while at Z’s look around for these treasures. There are pictures on the walls of family and friends during celebrations where the family’s favorite recipes were enjoyed. Pictures of the family during fishing outings, where the younger generations are experiencing the family past time for the first time. And there are quotes about the meaning of family and friends all around at Z’s. The family at Z’s welcomes everyone with open arms as they share some of the recipes that were handed down and some of the recipes that Z has created of her own. Z has so many recipes that she wants to share. When the opportunity presented itself for her to follow her dream, she was so excited, she had a huge menu that she wanted to offer, but the family asked her to scale things down. So just know that there’s more to come when you have lunch or dinner at Z’s. She plans to have special days where one can try out some of her other recipes and there will be desserts that are made from scratch. My thanks
Sincerely,
Z of Z’s Catfish
