The crowd at Riverside Municipal Auditorium came ready to sing Thursday night. Before The Front Bottoms even reached the stage, fans were joining in with the Cranberries’ “Linger” over the house speakers between sets. By the time the headliners appeared, the audience had packed in, carrying that enthusiasm into the songs they had come to hear.

The New Jersey band brought its “11 Years of Back On Top” tour to Riverside on Sept. 24, with rapper GDP and Cincinnati rock band Foxy Shazam rounding out a bill that offered three distinctly different approaches to working a crowd.

KK’s Priest returned to the Fox Performing Arts Center Saturday night and gave Riverside one hell of a heavy metal show. KK Downing, Tim “Ripper” Owens and crew brought the noise, and the packed Fox gave it right back.

Special guests for the W.A.S.P. 1984 to Headless tour, the fans at the Fox Theatre were treated to stage presence and spectacle and a whole lot of loud heavy metal 🤘

There are dysfunctional workplaces, and then there is the writer’s room on the 23rd floor...

Riverside Community Players kicks off its 102nd season with Neil Simon’s Laughter on the 23rd Floor, a fast-movie comedy filled with huge personalities, with even bigger egos that bruise easily, creative disagreements, and enough insults to bury the average human resources department in a mountain of paperwork. Under the direction of Toni Lynd, all that chaos comes together as something surprisingly heartwarming. The people may drive each other completely insane, but somewhere between the arguments, jokes, and rapid-fire one-liners, they have become a family.

There are few musicals as recognizable as Footloose. Nearly everyone knows the title song, and even those who have never seen the stage production are familiar with the story of a small town where dancing has been banned. It would be easy for a production to lean entirely on that nostalgia, letting the familiar music carry the evening. Fortunately, Riverside City College’s latest production understands that while the songs may bring audiences through the doors, it is the relationships between the characters that have kept Footloose relevant for more than four decades.

For many theatergoers, Shakespeare can feel intimidating. The language is centuries old, the plots can become tangled, and it is easy to worry about missing an important detail. Full Circle Players has built its annual Shakespeare in the Park series around eliminating those concerns, inviting audiences to simply relax, laugh, and enjoy one of the Bard’s most beloved comedies under the summer sky.

When Spring Awakening debuted on Broadway in 2006, it shocked audiences by pairing the repression of nineteenth-century Germany with a contemporary rock score that gave voice to the fears, frustrations, and desires of adolescence. Nearly twenty years later, the themes at the heart of the Tony Award-winning musical remain just as relevant. Fine Arts Network Theater Company’s latest production, directed by Julian Steven, embraces that timelessness through an intimate staging that places the audience directly inside the emotional lives of its characters.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if a bunch of deeply flawed people spend their Monday morning dealing with a series of bad romantic decisions, piled on top of more bad romantic decisions all while desperately trying to keep their secrets straight? Well, Riverside Community Player is serving up the answer in their latest production, The Cottage, a comedy farce directed by Neffer Gallagos.

A few weeks ago, I sat down with Maxwell Myers and Eduardo Foss at Back to the Grind to talk about the Fake Actors Guild, their ongoing series of live table reads based on shows like Bob’s Burgers and Futurama.

If you have seen one of their flyers and thought, “Why would I go watch people read a script,” you are not alone.

That is usually the first reaction.

Check out the story ( link to website in bio ) and learn why, if you haven’t see The Fake Actors Guild , you’ve been missing out!
