Flames 231 is named after Train 231 that collapsed in the Church Hill Tunnel in 1925. Flames 231 started serving wood-fired pizza and more in Shockoe Bottom on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012

We sold over 130 pizzas in less than five hours last night. This may be a new record for us. We couldn't have done it without our wonderful customers!

Thank you to everyone who came out to have dinner with us last night! A big thank you to our servers Sienna, Mary and Linsi for their hard work and dedication to accommodating everyone. And an especially big thank you to our #1 pizza man Alessandro, without him there would be no delicious pizzas!

My fav dish! Grilled Chicken Pesto Panini.. Great flavor and a must try!
Outstanding pizza with fig jam, prosciutto, gorgonzola, parmigiano, arugula, garlic & oil had just the right balance of sweet/salty with a crisp thin crust - ummm! The strawberry crème brulée - oh yum. Expresso was a perfect ending. Next time - Farfalle al Samone
Checked out Flames 231 (423 N. 18th Street), a “new” (for me) lunch spot (had tried to on Monday, but it didn’t open ‘til 5pm). Today was an 11am opening - perfect for me! I was scouting a place for Penny & me to try after volunteering at St. Paul’s ... I will definitely go back. I like to sample appetizers as a meal, and the three antipasti I chose were “get again” good, as was the pinot grigio!

Next time I’ll try the pasta Farfalle al Samone, or the Fig-Proscuitto pizza, and the Dolce 231 for dessert ... how is it possible to salivate with a full stomach?
