The past couple of weeks have been an emotional rollercoaster with so many ups and downs, but we continue to fight and pray! Nico is deeply grateful for all the prayers, encouragement, and financial support he has received—your love and kindness mean the world to him and our family.
Yesterday, the Stanford team successfully repositioned Nico's Impella 5.5 to better support his heart function. They also began a breathing trial to see if he’s ready for extubation. While he was doing well initially, his blood gas levels later showed slight acidosis at the low ventilator setting. To allow him more time, they decided to pause and try again today as it was late in the day when they started. He is also currently on a CRRT, a continuous dialysis to help his kidney function.
Last night, at around 9:40 PM, Nico experienced sustained ventricular tachycardia (Vtach) for 2–3 minutes. A code blue was called, and while his implanted pacemaker delivered four shocks, it wasn’t enough to stabilize him. An external shock was administered, which restored his heart rhythm.
The medical team adjusted his IV medications to prevent further episodes. Nico is currently on a Dilaudid drip, awake, and still on the ventilator. The plan is to let him rest today and resume breathing trials tomorrow. He is already breathing on his own with minimal ventilator support, which is encouraging.
The heart transplant team may present Nico’s case to the full team tomorrow. We are praying he’ll be accepted onto the heart transplant list soon.
Please keep Nico in your prayers. Your support and faith continue to give us strength during this critical time. Thank you for standing with us every step of the way!
Many of you have asked how you can help with Nico’s heart transplant journey. Your prayers, sharing this with friends, and spreading the word mean everything to us.
