I normally would not address something like this publicly, but after several hours of comments, negativity, and this situation being brought onto our business page and unrelated posts, I feel it’s time to say this.
We understand that not every experience will be perfect and not everyone will love everything we do. We are always willing to listen when a customer comes to us directly with a concern and gives us the opportunity to address it. Constructive criticism is part of owning a business, and we accept that.
We make hundreds of pizzas, and like any business made up of human beings, occasionally something may not come out exactly as intended. When that happens, we would much rather be given the opportunity to address it than see one mistake turn into hours of negativity toward an entire business and its employees.
What is difficult to accept is watching one situation turn into hours of negativity, personal comments, and people coming onto our page and other posts to continue it.
I also want to make something very clear: I stand by my employees. I see how hard they work every day, how much they care about our customers and this business, and I know how genuinely hurt and upset they are by everything that has happened today. They are human beings with feelings, and when you care deeply about something, your natural instinct is sometimes to defend it.
At the same time, my employees are individuals with their own personal social media accounts. What they choose to say on their own time and from their own accounts is their choice and does not necessarily represent Uncle Joe’s or me as the owner. I cannot control every personal conversation or response that takes place outside of this business.
Just as someone has the right to publicly criticize our business, my employees have the right to speak for themselves and defend themselves or a place and a team they care deeply about. I may not always choose the same words or the same response they do, but I will not turn my back on my employees simply because they are hurt and feel the need to defend something they work hard for every day.
As far as Uncle Joe’s as a business is concerned, we are done engaging with this situation. We have heard the criticism, we have said what we needed to say, and nothing positive is going to come from continuing to go back and forth.
What makes all of this especially difficult is that today started as a day we were incredibly proud of. Our team had the opportunity to give back to a wonderful cause in our community. Seeing such a positive moment overshadowed by hours of negativity has honestly been heartbreaking for all of us.
But I refuse to let that be what today is remembered for.
Today was about giving back. Today was about our community. Today was about doing something good—and THAT is what I choose to remember.
I am proud of my employees. I am proud of the business we work hard for every single day. And I am incredibly grateful for the many people who continue to support our small, family-owned business.
We will always listen, we will always try to do better when necessary, and we know we will never please everyone. But we will not continue participating in personal attacks, negativity, or endless social media arguments.
The drama may be louder tonight, but it does not make the act of kindness our team was part of today any smaller. That is the part of today that deserves to be louder. ❤️
We’ve said what needed to be said. As a business, it ends here. Tomorrow is a new day, and that’s where our focus is going.
