The Bull and The Dragon are back in stock. Ok, I have very limited quantities of these two coffees. Covid has hit the coffee industry just as hard as it has hit every other industry so coffee pickings are slim right now. But I was able to get my hands on these two gems.

Sulawesi Toraja aka "The Bull". Not quite as over the top spicy as it's counterpart Jaya but every bit as clean and complex. Big, bold and heavy. "The Bull" as it is known in the industry is a favorite of mine. I roast this one a little lighter than I do other Indonesian coffees because it actually has a little bit of acidity at this level that can resemble a citrus flavor. It works perfectly with the heavy body and chocolate notes. People swear that this is loaded with chocolate flavors but I'll be honest with you, I don't taste that. I am getting those flavors but anywhere near what people say about this coffee. But damn...this is an outstanding coffee that is absolutely perfect in a pour over or a french press.

I strongly recommend the lighter of the dark roasts with this one but I'll leave it up to you. Make no mistake, these are both dark roasts but the really dark roast is heavy and smoky. I never burn my coffee so if you are thinking it tastes like the big chain store of coffee you can forget that.

$13.99

I know this is a little bit expensive but my coffee prices have gone up and I'm doing everything I can to keep my prices reasonable. You would probably be looking at $17 and up for this elsewhere.

Next up is Flores Island aka "The Dragon" It's know by that name because of the Komodo Dragon on the burlap bag it comes in...very cool. I can't say enough good things about this coffee and it is giving Sulawesi some competition as my favorite Indonesian bean. As with all Indonesians, it's big, bold and heavy. But unlike its Sumatra, Java, Bali counterparts it's very clean with no earthy flavors. Like its other Indonesian cousins it does best as a dark roast. I am taking this pretty dark, almost as dark as my Sumatra but not quite. It's heavy bodied with chocolate, nutty and smooooooth with an interesting woodsy finish that has you begging for another sip. I could drink this all day long.

$13.99 (see above for an explanation)

If you thought that roasting coffee was all fun and games, think again. I have a cleaning regimen after 10k, 30k, 100kilos. Today I am doing my 100k cleaning. 10k is just taking the face off and making sure all the sensors are clean and working properly. 30k is a deeper clean that includes taking the back of the roaster off and clean the impeller fan and chaff collector. The 100k is a deep cleaning that takes the entire roaster apart. You have no idea how much gunk can accumulate after roasting more than 200lbs of coffee.

Rest easy though...none of the really nasty parts of the roaster come anywhere near contacting the beans in the drum. It's all the residual oils in the exhaust, chaff collector, impeller fan, exhaust tubing, etc...

Times are hard right now and the coffee business is not immune from the difficulties that this virus has placed on us. Importers are scrambling to fill orders and a lot of coffee growing nations have been ravaged by Covid-19. In short, it is slim pickings right now. So when my importer called me with about this coffee I decided to grab it.

Colombia has come a long way in the specialty coffee field. Some of the coffee coming out of Colombia is spectacular...this is not one of those coffees. I grabbed it for the following reasons. First- it is good coffee. I wouldn't sell it if it wasn't. It's smooth and rich with no offputting flavors. Second- it's *cheap*. Getting another 10+dollar coffee doesn't make sense right now. I have decent stock of everything so grabbing this made sense.

Let's be clear about what this is. It's a well sorted ( I am finding very little defective beans), easy drinking, solid cuppa joe. You're not going to drink this and be blown away by the taste. But you might very well be blown away by how good it is in relation to how cheap it is. It's well balanced and very easy to drink. If I was at someone's home and they handed this to me I would drink it with a smile on my face.

Sometimes you just need coffee to taste like...well...coffee. This is that and then some.

The best part? $7.99 a lb. Yes, you read that right. A fresh roasted lb for $7.99.

Tennant's coffee has always been a labor of love for me. I take great pride in offering coffee from around the world at good prices and exposing people to coffee that they would never have tried. But now is not the time for luxury. Now is the time for value.

Be smart, stay safe.

Ok folks, we are back up and open for business. Shipping is still a little iffy right now so shoot me a message if you need something shipped. For those that are local, you can place the order and I'll put it on the front porch for you to pick up so we can still keep our social distancing.

A couple of updates/reminders...

1. We now offer grinding at no extra charge. I bought a commercial grinder so I have some versatility with grind. I would NOT recommend espresso to be pre-ground. There are far too many variables to get the grind right for your machine.

2. Decaf is now on the menu. We have 3 offerings. PNG- lighter and fruity. Extremely rare decaf and superb. Guatemala - Medium dark. Smooth and bold. Sumatra - simply the best decaf you can get. Hard to tell the two apart to be honest. Big, heavy, dark and rich. Decaf is more expensive folks, sorry about that. $13.99 a lb. All 3 are Swiss Water processed and not chemically processed.

Ok, the second roasting of the decaf options went *very* well. The only thing keeping me from putting them up for sale is the fact that I haven't been able to make a pot of coffee with it. My brewer is at school so I have only tried it with a pour over and a French Press. I know that most of you will use some kind of auto drip coffee maker and I would hate to sell this without testing it. I will be getting access to my classroom next week so I'll grab my Technivorm Moccamaster from my room and brew it up. If all goes well the decaf will be available next week.

Still not shipping, sorry folks. I don't even know if I am allowed to ship or sell. I have no idea if coffee is considered an essential item or not. Once I get the all clear I'll start shipping again.

Was playing around with the espresso machine tonight and made a couple shots of Sulawesi Toraja. Jesus, I forgot how good this stuff was as an espresso. It's like drinking a shot of dark chocolate. Huge body, a touch of earthiness from the crema and then massive chocolate flavors. I have a customer who swears by this stuff in her espresso machine...tonight I remembered why.

I'm using the down time to play with some roasts and see what I can come up with. Today I roasted my Kenya AA. This is normally a lighter roast to keep the bright/wine like flavor. Today I took it dark..not quite a French roast but close. I'm going to try it as a coffee and as an espresso and see what it's like.

Speaking of espresso, I'm going to be working on my first blended coffee. It will be an espresso blend. We are in the early stages of this but I'll keep you posted.

Finally, I am still working on a decaf option. I've tried several and some were very good...and some were awful. I will not sell bad coffee just because it's decaf. If I wouldn't drink it, I wont sell it. With that in mind, my next decaf experiment will be with a Sumatra (dark) and a Papua New Guinea (light). Most decaf tastes better when roasted on the darker side. Sumatra is an obvious choice. The PNG is supposed to be insanely good. This one will be lighter, fruity, with a buttery finish. I'm looking forward to this one.

All of my local shipping stores are not taking walk in customers. I haven't mastered all of my roasts on the new roaster yet. If you need something and are willing to come and get it, I'll see what I can do and if the roasts are working, I'll put the coffee on the front porch and you can pay with paypal.

Please everyone, stay safe and be smart.
