Why I Don't Trust Supermarket Ground Beef
Somebody asked me why they should buy ground beef from me. Honest answer, the better question is why anyone is still buying it from a supermarket.
🥩 I have a massive distrust of that food. Not the cow's fault. It's everything that happens between the pasture and the plastic wrap.
🔍 Fun fact: one package of supermarket ground beef can contain meat from dozens of different cattle, because it gets ground in enormous commingled batches from multiple suppliers. One package, many animals, zero traceability. Whole animal butchery is one animal.
🇺🇸 Here's another one most people never heard. For years beef could legally carry a “Product of USA” sticker even if the animal was born and raised in another country and only processed here. The USDA finally tightened it so the claim means born, raised, and processed in the States. Think about what that label meant before.
🧪 See a company selling lab-grown meat? That's your answer. Done. Cut them off, don't even risk it.
💵 Pay a little more and give it to somebody who's actually growing it, feeding the food system, and holding the same values you do.
🤝 You vote with your dollar every single week whether you think about it or not. That's real leverage and most people spend it on autopilot.
🕸️ The network you build around your food is the whole thing. Know the guy. Know the ranch. Know what it ate.
Buy your beef from someone you actually like, who shares your values, and who can tell you where it came from. That's not a premium. That's the bare minimum.
