"At a show this weekend in Spokane a man collapsed from a heart attack while I was on stage. Without hesitation, the audience sprung into action- taking turns performing CPR, clearing an area for when paramedics arrive, monitoring vitals. He had no pulse for over 5 minutes when, by a miracle of God and the efforts of people in that room that night, they were able to revive him. I’ve never seen anything like it. The community came together by putting aside any identity or ego for one shared goal- and that was successfully bringing Mr. Wende back to life. My funny friends Akeem Hoyte-Charles and Rachel Aflleje went with me to visit him in the hospital the next day- where we got to finish the show for him. Sitting and laughing with his family for hours in a hospital room was truly the reminder I needed for why comedy is so needed. In a divided world filled with hurt and uncertainty, we overlook how fragile the time is that we even get to be here. It feels like we forget that we're all the same underneath… we're all human. Shout out to the city of Spokane, the medical professionals, and the Wende family for bringing this beautiful man into my life and reminding me how special community is." - Drew Lynch
