Start captions with a hook that creates curiosity, not a menu list. Tell a short story about the dish, mistake, or inspiration. Keep sentences conversational and simple. Always end with an easy opinion based question like “sweet or savory?” or “would you try this?” because questions drive comments and engagement.

Stop paying for the privilege of cooking! 🛑
If you charge a flat fee that includes groceries, you’re bleeding profit the second a client orders an expensive dish like beef medallions.
The Fix: Charge a flat service fee PLUS the cost of groceries. Your income stays predictable, and your margins stay protected. 📈

Chefs, study your local market. See what other chefs are doing, test different ideas, and keep refining your approach. After enough trial and error, you’ll build a system where selling your food starts to feel automatic.

1. Lighting is everything
Natural light wins almost every time. Put the dish near a window and avoid harsh overhead kitchen lighting. Soft light from the side makes food look fresh, colorful, and high end. If shooting at night, use a bright white light instead of yellow lighting so the food keeps its true color.
2. Plate like people eat with their eyes first
Clean plating matters more than fancy ingredients. Wipe sauce smudges off the plate, keep portions intentional, and add height or texture when possible. Simple garnishes can make a huge difference, but don’t overcrowd the plate.
3. Keep the background clean and distraction free
A messy kitchen, random bottles, dirty towels, or clutter instantly lowers the perceived quality of the food. The food should be the hero of the shot. Use clean counters, neutral backgrounds, and remove anything that doesn’t add to the scene.
4. Use the right phone settings
Turn on grid lines to help frame shots cleanly. Tap the food on your screen to lock focus and exposure before shooting. Avoid using the zoom because it lowers quality. Shoot videos in 4K if your phone supports it, and use slow motion sparingly for things like pouring sauce or cutting into crispy food. Clean your camera lens before every shoot because fingerprints destroy image quality fast.
