Now this will be for the older generation mostly, like myself. But the most famous musician and TV icons that we know that we have served, was a big fan of our lemonades this weekend.
Rodney Dillard, who was one of the Darling boys on the Andy Griffith Show and his wife Beverly-Cotten Dillard enjoyed our lemonades.
Rodney is the last remaining Darling. He and Beverly perform with the legendary bluegrass band, "The Dillards", who were "The Darlings" on the Andy Griffith Show. We are glad they are keeping these old songs alive.
Beverly is a native of North Carolina who grew up just north of Mount Airy. She has performed with Doc Watson and is an acclaimed claw hammer banjo musician and singer.
We thank them for their business and all of the customers from Mayberry Days this weekend.
"Now Dooley was a good old man
Lived below the mill
Dooley had two daughters
And a forty gallon still
One gal watched the boiler
The other watched the spout
And mama corked the bottles
When old Dooley fetched them out
Dooley, slipping up the holler
Dooley, trying to make a dollar
Dooley, give me a swallow
And I'll pay you back someday
The revenuers came for him
Slipping through the woods
But Dooley kept behind them all
And never lost his goods
Now Dooley was a trader
When into town he'd come
Sugar by the bushel
And molasses by the drum
Dooley, slipping up the holler
Dooley, trying to make a dollar
Dooley, give me a swallow
And I'll pay you back someday
Now I remember very well
The day old Dooley died
The womenfolk looked sorry
And the men stood around and cried
Now Dooley's on the mountain
He lies there all alone
They put a jug beside him
And a barrel for a stone
Dooley, slipping up the holler
Dooley, trying to make a dollar
Dooley, give me a swallow
And I'll pay you back someday
And I'll pay you back someday"
