After tasting a few, Waitrose’s plain scone was well-balanced taste-wise and price-wise. Crumbly yet moist, and the perfect match with clotted cream & strawberry jam.

And of course, nothing pairs better than a cup of milk tea. My morning bliss in London! ah....already missing Cream Tea！

スコーンはいくつか食べ比べてみたけれど、Waitroseのプレーンスコーンが、味&価格のバランスがちょうどいいと思った。ほろりとほどけるような食感と、口の天井に張り付くようなしっとり感、クロテッドクリームと苺ジャムとの相性も抜群。

クロテッドクリームは断然、Rodda’sのコーニッシュ・クロテッドクリーム！濃厚＆クリーミーで伸びがよい。そしてスコーン＆クロテッドクリームには、断然ミルクティーが合う。滞在中毎朝の楽しみだった。あゝすでに恋しい、、、。

Finally, I found my favorite fish & chips!

This is said to be the only place in London that fries their fish & chips with pork butter dripping. The golden batter is light and crisp, with the rich aroma and savoriness of pork. Splash on plenty of malt vinegar, and it’s pure perfection—nothing else needed! This place is definitely going on my repeat list.

I met Aya through our mutual friend another Aya when I visited London about 9 years ago. We lived in between London and New York so never lived in the same country, but we clicked instantly from day one and she became my very bestie ever since!

Being with her like playing squash with the perfect partner! Our sense of humor is pretty sharp, fast, and every shot hits that sweet spot, and we could rally FOREVER!

After traveling through Hungary, Austria, and Portugal, what I wanted in London was simply to hang out with my friends and family. We shared great food and drinks, and so much laughter until cried! Now my battery is fully charged, 1000%!

出会ってかれこれ２５年！？東京時代からの友達で、made in Englandにこだわった服作りを続けている中川あやちゃん。Londonの大好きな場所のひとつ、フラワーマーケットが立つColoumbus Roadにチャーミングなブティックを構える。ビジネスの移り変わりが目まぐるしいこの街で、出会った時から全くブレのないスタイルで、自分のブランドを続けていること、本当にリスペクトでしかない。タフなのにしなやか、スタイリッシュでファニー。今回もすごく良い時間をシェアできて本当にうれしかったよ！ありがとう！！！

I’m normally a coffee person, but since I’m in London I drink tea all the time.Sure, fancy brands like Fortnum & Mason or Whittard are great for gifts, but you don’t really see them in local kitchens. When it comes to everyday tea, it’s all about Tetley, Yorkshire, Barry’s, or PG Tips — all sold in big family packs at the corner grocery shops. If you’re having 3–4 cups a day, tasty enough, easy on the wallet-just perfect!

普段コーヒー党だけど、イギリスに来るとティーばかり飲んでいる。紅茶と言えばFortnum&MasonやWhittardの高級茶葉が有名だけど、自宅でそれらを見かけることはほとんどない。Everyday Teaと言えば、Tetley,Yorkshire, Barry’s, PG Tipsが人気で、近所の商店で大量に入ったファミリーパックが売られている。1日３−４杯飲むことを思うと、程よい美味しさとリーズナブルな価格、ちょうどいいのだ。ちなみに私はPG Tips派です。

親友のランチ休憩に、彼女の職場の近くのイタリア系サンドイッチショップで待ち合わせた。友人おすすめのホームメイドのラビオリスープとチキンカツのサンドイッチをオーダー。

先にサーブされたスープは、チキンの出汁がしっかり効いている。少し酸味があってフレッシュパセリがアクセントで沁み滋味と美味しい！小ぶりのラビオリも皮の輪郭がしっかり残っていて、絶妙な茹で加減。スープに付いてきたパンを食べるのをすっかり忘れていた。

スープで胃袋が全開になったところに、チキンカツ＆チャバタのサンドイッチがサーブされ、あっという間に食べてしまった。テーブルに残ったパンの存在を思い出して、持って帰ろうか？と言うと、友人が「チーズ＆ピクルス挟んでもらえるか聞いてみる！」と顔馴染みのお母さんに声をかける。

バターを塗ったバンズの間にささっとチーズとオニオンピクルスを挟んで包んでくれた。すると友人が「これにクリスプ挟むんで食べると美味しいよ！絶対ソルト＆ビネガー味ね」と付け加える。

仕事へと戻っていく友人と別れたあと、もう頭の中は「ピクルス＆クリスプサンドイッチ」のことでいっぱい。Walkersのソルト＆ビネガーを買って家に帰った。

夕食時、キッチンでちょっと握りしめたクリスプをサンドイッチの間に挟んでいると、ルームメイトが覗き込んで「うわあ懐かしい！」と言う。半分に切って一緒に食べながら、サンドイッチの思い出話をしてくれた。

レストランやカフェではなかなか見かけない、こういうリアルフードこそ私が本当に見てみたい食べてみたいLONDONかもしれない。

好奇心と抜群のコミュ力、ローカルに溶け込みロンドンで長く暮らす親友のおかげで、私までもリアルなLONDONを覗き見させてもらっている。ピクルス＆クリスプサンドイッチが、この旅で一番記憶に残る食事かもしれない。

From soupy rice, like a loose risotto, to dry mixed rice often served on the side. But a seafood risotto packed with ocean goodness which is main dish on its own.

One of the great found on my trip to Portugal was how incredibly delicious the octopus was there !

Fried, in salads, grilled, with rice — every dish was amazing. It was nothing like the octopus I’ve had in Japan — thick, tender, slightly sweet — and every time I saw it on the menu, I just had to order it. Portugal is Paradise of Octopus!!

Started collecting sardine cans after a friend brought me one back from Portugal as a souvenir. The package design was too beautiful to open, so I kept adding one after another—until it turned into a full-blown collection.

While in Porto, I found a tour at Conservas Pinhais which is a traditional can sardine factory that’s been around since 1920. During the tour, we learned about the history of Portugal’s sardine canning industry and the company itself, then watched each step of the production process.Watching the staff hand-wrap each can with such rhythm was hypnotic.

The best part? I got to wrap my own. Now I have a sardine can with my name on it—one of my dreams came true!

いつからか集め始めた缶サーディン、きっかけは友人のポルトガル土産だったと思う。パッケージデザインの素晴らしさに開けることができず、賞味期限がとっくに切れたサーディン缶が、一個また一個と増えていつのまにかコレクションになっていた。

訪れたPortoの近くで、1920年創業の「Conservas Pinhais」サーディンファクトリーの工場見学なるものを見つけた！

ポルトガルにおける缶サーディンビジネスの歴史と、Pinhaisファクトリーの歴史を学んだあと、ファクトリーの作業工程を見学させてもらった。スタッフのみなさんが、手際よくペーパー缶を包んでいく様はなんともリズミカルで圧巻だった。そしてハイライトは、缶包みに挑戦さえてもらったこと！自分の名前の入った缶サーディンは一生の宝ものになった！
