🤫 When 2023 began, only a couple friends knew.

⏳ The truth is, I thought I was just taking a break. Until my health continuously improved, and a year went by. It was hard initially but got easier with time.

🧠 My secret to how I got through year one sober:

- ☕️ removed alcohol from my home and added more teas (now there are thousands of non-alc products in stores)

- 💧 continued to show up to bars and other places but stuck to water (now there are places with inclusive options)

- 🏋️‍♀️ reminded myself of my health and fitness goals until it became a no brainer (group coaching helped)

- 🎨 slowly replaced activities that revolved around alcohol with new hobbies and communities (volunteering, art, dating, travel, etc. served as great distractions!)

🌃 Obviously, something was still missing, and that was my love for nightlife! That’s why I started Bar Nun, an alcohol-free community.

🍾 And I’m so excited to be hosting a celebration of sobriety milestones in NYC on Friday!

1. I built this community because I never had one, and I still struggle to get sign-ups and people to show up.

Building a community has been unpredictable. With so many moving parts, I still lack clarity and confidence to know how to take this business to the next level. So, partially out of fear, I’ve kept summer events small and intimate.

2. The truth is, I feel behind.

I haven’t been profitable, and I’m living on savings and family help. Meanwhile, I see other business owners and communities landing amazing partnerships, go viral, get press, and scale fast. I’m wondering how they’re managing it and how long it'll take me to get there.

3. Even with an MBA, as a first-time entrepreneur, I have little idea if this will actually work.

I’ve taken courses, sought out mentors, and networked, but I’m still regularly re-assessing our strategy. It’s lonely, and I hate doing this alone. I hope to eventually have a business partner and team to help me build this.

4. On the outside, I come off confident and put-together. But behind the scenes? I am exhausted from always having to be strong.

Being the face of the business makes me feel like I’m not allowed to take a day off or fall apart. Even when I’m exhausted, a voice in my head keeps reminding me of my to-do list, and it’s affecting my mental wellbeing.

5. I’ve been alcohol-free for over three years, but there are still days I want to numb out.

I’m carrying financial strain, health issues, and imposter syndrome. So much of my life feels messy right now—and that is not something I’m used to. My personal development journey is constantly evolving, and while fitness, volunteering, self-care, and friends keep me grounded, the fear of failure is still real. I struggle with my self-worth, fear of judgment, and feeling disconnected — even from close friends.

Why am I still here?

Because I’m learning, growing, and healing, little by little.

I’m not trying to have it all figured out anymore. If you need a space where you can just show up, be human, and do the same ... this is it.

Follow along, you don't need to do it alone either.

When I quit alcohol, I cleared out the wine and pivoted.

I’ve always been an avid green tea fan, but now, instead of offering wine to my friends, I pull out my box of various teas.

While in South India, I got to visit a tea plantation and tour a factory processing the freshly picked leaves. It was one of the most beautiful, scenic, and life-changing experiences.

Tea provided a peace - a wellness ritual I crave and love. A daily communal social that I observed in my family generations while growing up but didn’t really get into until I was an adult.

Tea is rich in benefits and has been one of the easiest incorporations into my busy life, so I was excited to find a locally-owned brand, D O N A, that supplies a variety of high-quality options.

We’ll be touring the facility on Wednesday, we hope to see you there!

Even if you can’t make it, join the waitlist to be notified of our future events.

Excited to have sponsoring Thursday’s free, intimate networking night at with interactive comedy activity led by in Bushwick!

Free with RSVP: drynet4.eventbrite.com (almost full!)

We’ve also got water, riff on a marg and pilsner beer.

We tested some non-alc cocktail recipes from the Three Spirit website that you can easily make at home to spruce up these functional treats:

Energizing spritz: light, refreshing with tart pomegranate and berry and sour grapefruit notes - I’d love this for brunch and daytime, outdoor occasions like sporting events

2 oz. Livener
4.5 oz. Tonic
Squeeze of grapefruit juice or garnish with slice

Uplifting molasses lemonade: sweet twist on a classic - perfect to batch for a picnic outing

2 oz. Social
4.5 oz. Lemonade

Uplifting riff on a mule: bubbly, sweet and spicy ginger, and citrus flavors - perfect for a chill, hot summer daytime or evening party with friends

1 oz. Social
3 oz. Ginger Beer
Squeeze of lime juice (or wedge garnish)
Optional: Mint and/or candied ginger garnish

Relaxing slow-sipper: strong, earthy, maple syrup, cherry, pepper, and floral bitter notes - perfect for a cozy evening wind-down experience like romantic movie night, bonfire, etc.

2 oz. Nightcap (my fave flavor of the Three Spirits)
1 oz. Tart Cherry Juice
3 dashes Lavender Bitters
Optional: express orange peel over glass, maraschino cherry garnish

Details on functional ingredients (not listed here): threespiritdrinks.com

We can’t wait to have you try them tomorrow and let us know what you think!
