Last week, Cohort 67 graduated from our program, and the occasion was made extra special with a visit from New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection Sam Levine. Moved by the students' speeches and the inspiration behind their dishes, Commissioner Levine reminded our graduates that they are an integral addition to the mosaic tapestry that makes New York so amazing.

We are so proud of our graduates and look forward to watching them embark on the next steps in their culinary careers!

As part of our Chef-in-Residence Mentorship Series, James Beard Award winner Chef Vish Bhatt spent time mentoring our students and teaching them his take on West Indies Crab Salad with Old Bay Cracker.

Through this program, acclaimed chefs across the DC area share their craft with our students, and give them hands-on experience and real-world culinary skills. Now, our students are executing this dish live on the menu!

Last week, our students visited Liberty Island and were treated to a private crown tour of the Statue of Liberty! Thank you to Senior Conservator, Naomi Kroll Hassebroek and Superintendent, Tom Ross from the National Park Service for sharing their time and knowledge!

We take our name from Emma Lazarus, the poet whose words have welcomed newcomers for hundreds of years at the base of Lady Liberty. Every day, we strive to live up to her promise of welcoming in our newest neighbors into our communities with open arms.

Today, we are catching up with Clara! Since finishing our training program, she has been doing incredible things at Zaytinya, where she started as a prep cook and has now moved to a line cook. This as allowed her to build a stable and thriving career path in our local community, in addition to inspiring our current trainees with their dedication and success.
