More than a decade after arriving in Nashville, Kristen and Tyler McGee are preparing to own a piece of that city themselves through a residence at VOCE Hotel and Residences in Midtown.

VOCE combines private residences with a luxury hotel, giving owners like the McGees the flexibility to enjoy their residence themselves or place it in the hotel’s hospitality program when they’re away. The hospitality team handles reservations and guest services, allowing the residence to potentially generate income without the McGees having to manage a short-term rental themselves.

For Kristen, there’s something especially satisfying about that. “We literally are part owners of a hotel,” she said. “That’s crazy to say.”

Over a glass of wine, Bruce and Shayla Jacobs did what they often do when a big decision looks almost too good.

They started looking for the catch.

A penthouse at VOCE Hotel and Residences in Midtown Nashville came with over 40,000 sq ft of hotel- and member-only amenities, less upkeep and the chance to earn income while they travel.

“What is the downside to this?” Bruce asked. “I kept coming back to that question — what’s the downside?

“I couldn’t find anything.”
