A few quick pics taken before handing this project over to our clients - what a wonderful job Michael Marsh and his AWD team did remodeling this whole house to mimic our clients’ long time home they are leaving behind to move here and age in place in this beautiful townhome. Downsizing (if we can call it that since this home is huge and Michael made it even bigger by enlarging the second level by filling in the first floor overlook!) is never easy, but at the request of our clients, we replicated every detail possible from their home of the past 30 years for this house. It helped that I had helped with (and Michael built) much of that home too, and we knew their special style and what they adored. Same cabinets, same paint, similar mosaic over the cooktop, same huge bar area - couldn’t still get their original quartzite countertops but they love the new ones they discovered. What a privilege to help these delightful people in this next chapter of their lives, in a new home that feels very much like their old one.

Sneak peek at an (almost) finished kitchen by the incomparable AWD team/Michael Marsh and crew!! Still in need of some electrical finishing touches as well as my client’s accessorizing, but I just couldn’t wait to show off this beauty!! These gorgeous Signature Custom/Fieldstone cabinets from Severna Park Kitchen and Bath coupled with these spectacular quartz countertops and full height splash fabricated by Atlas Stone Fabricators really make this kitchen a showpiece!! More to come of the whole space when it’s all done!!

So happy to get pics today of this incredible kitchen transformation finished late last summer by the amazing team led by Shawn Thiess/Oakridge Builders. My clients are still working on adding their accessories and personal touches, but with the addition of the new island stools we deemed it “photo-worthy”!

This is a Shipleys Choice Barcroft model that I actually designed the original kitchen for in 2007 for clients who moved and sold to my new clients several years ago! To better suit their young active family, we decided to open up the kitchen end to the dining room end for one large open space, and to build a mudroom into one quadrant of the two car garage for abundant storage of all the kids’ stuff. (something several people are doing these days!) Shawn and his extremely talented carpenter Tory built the mudroom cubbies as well as more built-ins in the family room - and flawlessly executed my design of the kitchen including the gorgeous hood and coffee bar shelves. We installed a potfiller faucet (typically used over a cooktop) at the coffee bar instead to more easily accommodate this fancy coffee machine water refilling, and it works so well there!

The old kitchen was lovely, but this one is a game changer! I can’t recommend Oakridge Builders highly enough - their level of professionalism, communication and skilled expertise is simply awesome!

Preview of Before and After of one of the most transformative and special spaces I’ve had the privilege of working on!! More to come (with credits) once my client gets moved in. I love my job for many reasons, but without a doubt, the friends I make along the way is the greatest blessing of all. What a project this has been!

This first photo is the Before of this tiny townhouse kitchen - and the others show the much improved version. This was an economical remodel that really made a difference for this client, who got lots more storage and expansive (and beautiful!) counter space and a definite appliance upgrade!

Although there are still a few details not yet finished, I was able to get photos of part of this gorgeous kitchen! We expanded the space into the large foyer area to reorient the island and the entire work space. What a difference this simple change made! Now my client has a large island and a kitchen worthy of this magnificent waterfront home!

Michael Marsh and his AWD team of professionals pulled off the tricky task of unifying a multi level ceiling in this old house to get the almost 8’ height my design needed…although it was touch and go for awhile, I have learned to never doubt what those guys can do!

I had the cool idea of adding in this shelf niche for stashing your purse, mail, keys etc. when I flattened out an odd jog in the wall - and it has proven super useful.

Cabinetry is gorgeous with a White Oak island -by Signature Custom - and the expertise of Clayton Chavis/Severna Park Kitchen and Bath; Countertops are spectacular quartz by Atlas Stone Fabricators; Luxury appliances from ABW/Graham McBane; and the backsplash tile and lively mosaic mural from Atlas Marble and Tile with kudos to Laura Anderson on the awesome mosaic design.

Now this kitchen in an opulent Amsterdam home from the 19th century is a definite upgrade from that 12th century medieval castle! Tomorrow I head home from this European adventure and I can’t wait to get back to work on 21st century kitchens again!🥰😉

Since I’ve had the good fortune of being away on a European vacation the past few weeks, I thought I’d share a different kind of home project - the medieval Marksburg castle from the 12th century! They used one of my favorite dining setups then - the banquette- but the cooking, prepping abd refrigeration systems have thankfully changed!! And that bathroom right off the main gathering area was a luxury then!! And these beams have been holding up this huge castle over 800 years! Makes me think of all the beams my favorite contractors are installing while I’m away! 😉
