Big federal election tomorrow, 26 Sep 2021 in Germany. Elections are held on Sundays which makes sense because it allows people to vote without having to get away from work. Current Chancellor Angela Merkel is leaving office which gives another candidate a chance to hold the office. The three top contenders are: Olaf Scholz , the current Vice Chancellor from the Social Democratic Party, Annalena Baerbock from the Green Party and Armin Laschet from the Christian Democratic Union. It stands to be a close election, but regardless who becomes Chancellor, at least three political parties will have to come together to form a coalition government. This is normal in Europe where no single party gets enough votes to hold a majority of the seats in Parliament, thereby requiring them to join forces with another party or two.
