The Internet Calls Everything Toxic Now, And It’s Making People Question Normal Conflict

There’s something happening online right now that honestly worries me. Somewhere between “protect your peace” culture and TikTok therapy language, we’ve started calling almost every uncomfortable interaction toxic. A disagreement? Toxic.A boundary? Toxic.Someone being disappointed in you? Toxic.Being held accountable for your actions? Apparently also toxic now. And the problem is that when everything becomes emotional abuse, people stop being able to recognize what actual emotional abuse looks like....

The internet labels everything toxic now. From disagreements to accountability. Learn the difference between emotional abuse and normal conflict, how therapy language is being misused online, and why nuance matters in healthy relationships.

A lot of us learned emotional safety, acceptance, vulnerability, humor, strength, and even identity through fictional characters long before we experienced those things consistently in real life.

So no, I don’t think comfort shows are “just TV.”

I think they became emotional survival tools for an entire generation trying to self-soothe through burnout, anxiety, trauma, loneliness, and overwhelm.

From Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Gilmore Girls to Living Single to Bluey… this post is probably the most personal thing I’ve written in a while.

And honestly? I think a lot of millennials are going to see themselves in it.

If you’ve ever turned on Bluey for your kid… and realized it was actually for you. Let’s just say it out loud. Some kids’ shows feel like psychological warfare. Fast voices. Bright colors. Some people didn’t grow up in safe homes.
They grew up in environments where love was conditional, emotions were punished, and reality was constantly rewritten.

And then they were told
“but they’re your family.”

No one talks about what it does to your nervous system when the people who were supposed to protect you… are the reason you feel like you’re drowning.

If you’ve ever thought
“maybe it would be easier if I just wasn’t here”
because of your family…

You’re not broken.
You’re responding to something real.

I wrote this for you.
Read it. Sit with it. Save it.

What To Do When Your Family Makes You Want to Die

When Family Becomes the Source of Your Pain There’s a specific kind of pain people don’t talk about enough. The kind where the people who are supposed to love you the most are the ones making you feel like you don’t want to exist anymore. And if you’ve ever typed something like: “my family makes me want to die” “suicidal thoughts because of family”...

If your family is causing suicidal thoughts, you’re not broken. Learn why this happens, how to cope, and how to protect your mental health safely.

You weren’t “too sensitive.”
You were being emotionally dismissed, and your nervous system adapted the only way it knew how.

When a child’s feelings are ignored, minimized, or mocked, they don’t stop feeling… they just stop expressing it.
They learn to question themselves. To shrink. To stay quiet to stay safe.

That doesn’t magically go away in adulthood.
It shows up as overexplaining. People-pleasing. Feeling “too much” and “not enough” at the same time.

And healing isn’t about becoming less sensitive.
It’s about finally learning that your emotions were never the problem.

AI feels helpful because it’s available.
That doesn’t mean it’s safe.

We didn’t choose AI because it’s better.
We chose it because the system failed us.

And that’s the part no one wants to talk about.
