Did you know we have Mayan cuisine at Tepache? 🌺

SIKIL PAAK is ancestral Mayan salsa or dip from the Yucatán, made from a base of roasted pumpkin seeds (pepitas!), tomato, chile, fresh orange juice, and garlic. In Yucatec Maya:

SIKIL - Pumpkin seed / pepita
PAAK - Tomato

Its consistency is kind of like hummus, and it’s deep and complex, with lots of smoky layering 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 Very delicious starter 🦋

The Maya live in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras y El Salvador and speak over 30 languages 🐆🐆🐆

In Mexico, historical Mayan centers are in places like the Yucatán, Quintana Roo & Chiapas 🦅🦅

Our job is to give our community a complete sensory experience of Mexico. That’s grounded by food and drink, of course—but it also includes art. Art is a key way to support local while also elevating Mexican culture in Pittsburgh 🇲🇽🇲🇽

Art has a deep Mexican history that laces with beliefs about the world, nature, and food. We love creating and displaying art as a gateway to consider what it means to come from Mexican cultural heritage 🎨🌺🦋🪶

This print is inspired by Otomí embroidery 🪡

The Otomí people live across Mexico, but especially in Hidalgo, Querétaro & el estado de México 🩵
