WifeKnut here, reporting live from the Park View Community Mission Annual Celebration dinner! What an amazing opportunity to feed the people who so generously support this important organization that provides food, clothing, education, and so many resources for neighbors in our Lynchburg communities. Our talented staff team is killing it and you know ChefKnut himself is a rockstar, as always! 👏

The calendar is filling up fast, what can he cook for you? 😍👨‍🍳🔥

Now that I’ve had a little time to reflect on this year’s LYH Top Chef Competition 👨🏼‍🍳, the first thing I want to say is how proud I am to have been part of an event that helps Jubilee Family Development Center raise money to support the children in our community. Being able to use something I’ve spent my life doing to help an organization doing such important work means a lot to me. It’s an honor that they continue to ask me back year after year, and I don’t take that opportunity for granted.

It also means a lot to know that there are people and businesses willing to sponsor me and support me in doing this. There’s something very affirming about knowing that people believe in what I do enough to invest in giving me the opportunity to show up, compete, and share my skills. Having that kind of support behind me is something I’m incredibly grateful for.

One of the most meaningful parts of these events for me is getting to include my family. My parents live far away, so any opportunity to have them here is special, but getting to have them actually working alongside me makes it even better. Having my parents and my son on my team means I get to share this part of my life with the people who have been there through so many different parts of it. Those are the moments I’ll remember long after the competition itself is over.

As for the competition—I wanted to win. I didn’t accomplish that goal, and I’m not going to pretend I wasn’t disappointed. I put a lot of thought, work, and myself into the food we served that night, as did all the chefs. I’m proud of what we put out, I believe it was worthy of winning, and I know I did everything I could that day. Sometimes it just isn’t your day. That doesn’t take anything away from how I feel about what we accomplished or how proud I am of the food my team and I served.

Thank you to everyone who has continued to support me through the years. Every message, vote, word of encouragement, and person who continues to show up for me means more than I probably say often enough.

Thank you to my parents for making the trip and being part of my team, and to my son for being there beside me.

Thank you to Carrie for being my number one hype person, PR person, social coordinator, and most importantly, for always supporting me and being there for me. There is a lot that happens behind the scenes to make something like this possible, and she is behind a whole lot of it, more than I even realize sometimes.

Thank you to Jubilee for continuing to give me the opportunity to participate, to Shannon and her team for doing such an incredible job organizing this event every year, and to Aztec Rentals for always making sure I have what I need to get the job done.

I’m proud of what we did. I’m grateful for the people I got to do it with and for everyone who helped get me there - and I’m already planning for next year.

As for what's next up for ChefKnut - follow along next weekend as we cater a 90's themed gala for Park View Community Mission at the incredible venue space at Amazement Square. We are excited to be a part of such a special night! 🎉

Jubilee is excited to showcase the first of four chefs competing in this year’s Top Chef Special Event next Saturday, August 29th!

Chef Michael Knutsen of ChefKnut Catering & Small-Batch Eats is a Virginia Beach native turned Lynchburg local by marriage. He got his start at a young age, helping his Grandaddy in the kitchen. When asked about his earliest culinary memories, Chef Michael said, “I remember helping Grandaddy with his famous fried chicken. It was the best because I was the official paper-bag-shaker.” Chef Knut received his formal culinary education and training at Johnson and Wales University in Norfolk, VA, where he earned both an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor’s Degree in Food Service Management. With fine dining internship opportunities at Blue Point in Duck, NC, and Basin Harbor Club in Vergennes, VT, under his belt, Chef Michael began his professional career in food service at Town Point Club in Norfolk, VA, where he eventually became Chef de Cuisine. Since moving to Lynchburg, Chef Knut has worked in several areas, including teaching cooking at the Old Dominion Job Corps Center in Monroe, VA, providing several cohorts with the necessary skills to enter the workforce ready to cook. In addition to culinary instruction, Chef Knut has worked with the Lynchburg Hillcats, V&T Café, and First Christian Church. Nowadays, Chef Michael delights in booking private catering events from late April through December, providing excellent meals for weddings, birthday and anniversary parties, conference events, and more.

Chef Michael Knutsen won Best Appetizer at Jubilee Top Chef in 2024, and is thrilled to return to Jubilee’s Top Chef this year! Only a few tickets are left for this fantastic culinary experience! Please call Jubilee at 434-845-0433 or visit http://www.lynchburgtickets.com/topchef to purchase tickets. We hope to see you next Saturday at Top Chef!

Gotta brag about this fella for a second.. when a local food truck had to unexpectedly cancel for the first day of the new Wednesday night Rivermont Farmer's Market, Chef stepped up to the plate to provide a food option. Oh, yeah, he did this with about 3 hours notice. What a rockstar!!! 😍🤩

Hot dogs, anyone? 🌭 🌭 🌭
