We have launched a school out of our café, and we know you’re going to want to watch our video, because seeing is absolutely believing!

I'm Ralph Salazar, the founder of Redemption Kitchen and the owner of Dougie J's Cafe located in Las Vegas.

I believe that if you deserve a second chance, you should get one. And after watching your video, we are counting on you to help us complete our mission!

I knew I could facilitate a line-cooking school out of my café geared toward helping veterans and others who have earned another shot by providing life skills that will help them not just get back on their feet but to succeed and regain independence. And after listening to my ideas and experiences, local and state agencies supported my idea to create just such a program. Our program is up and running but needs your continued support.

This idea didn't come without a sacrifice, hardship and cost: Renovations, codes, building permits and licensing are just a few examples of the costs that continue to add up.

Though we are fully licensed with the state, city and the post secondary education commission, state and local agencies that pay for student tuitions cannot be utilized until July 1st, 2018, based on fiscal year budgets.

Your contribution will help us sustain, prepare and complete renovations for the school until July 1st, 2018.

Dougie J's Cafe was granted their state license on Dec 21st as a post secondary institution to teach line cooking. we will certify Veterans and men and women who need second chances... school name... My family and I visited DougieJ's on August 2 for lunch. We were fortunate enough to meet Ralph the owner, who explained who Douglas Green was and his sacrifice and how he came to own the restaurant. The four of us each ordered a different item and the service and food was great, but even better was the conversation with Ralph. He's very easy to talk to. He also runs a program that teaches other veterans cooking skills and works to place them in area restaurants. He would like to have veterans email him pictures of themselves in uniform or family members who are veterans so he can place them on the walls. When you're in a Vegas, this needs to be on your list of stops. Definitely ask to speak to Ralph. Looking forward to our next visit to DougieJ's.
My family and I visited DougieJ's for lunch today and were fortunate enough to talk to Ralph, the owner. He is a veteran himself. He explained how the restaurant came to be and how he was able to buy it. He also provides training for other veterans in Las Vegas, some of whom are working in other area restaurants. The food was great and there are several items, including uniforms from the 4 branches of service and military pictures on the walls. You can tell by listening to him, this is his passion. We really enjoyed it and the next time we're in Vegas, we'll definitely be back. This is more than a restaurant, it's a way to honor all military service.
