There was a time when Lake Toxaway was home to one of the most luxurious mountain resorts in the South.
The magnificent Toxaway Inn welcomed families like the Vanderbilts, Fords, and Rockefellers, who arrived by train to spend their summers in the cool mountain air. But in 1916, everything changed. A catastrophic flood destroyed the dam, drained the lake, and brought the Inn's golden era to an abrupt end. For nearly 50 years, the valley became known as the "Lost Lake" before Lake Toxaway was eventually restored.
Today, Grand Olde Station proudly celebrates and shares the stories that shaped this remarkable community.
