I’ve been asked several times now, “What makes you want to throw a community event like this?”
And I’ve been thinking about the answer.
This is our sixth annual Pumpkin Party, but it’s actually the 15th community event we’ve hosted.
And if I strip away all the planning and logistics and spreadsheets and phone calls and pumpkins and apples and volunteers and vendors and everything else that goes into putting on something this size, the reason I keep doing it is actually really simple.
I want a village.
I don’t have a lot of close family, and I have very little family in the area.
Somewhere inside me is still a little girl who wants a house full of people during the holidays. Who wants people to gather for the special seasons, to show up and do the traditions with me, and who wants that feeling of everyone being around.
At some point, I realized I could make that happen.
I just had to invite my town.
And lucky for me, they showed up. ❤️
We still call it the Pumpkin Party, but that kind of minimizes what it’s become. It’s basically a small community festival. Hundreds of people. Local farms participate. Musicians. Vendors. Volunteers. Hayrides. Crafts. Food. Pumpkins. Fresh c***r. Months of planning and hundreds of tiny details that all have to come together. And it’s a ridiculous amount of work.
But underneath all of that, the motivation hasn’t changed at all. At its core, Rachel just wants people to show up.
So please show up, people. ❤️
Come on Sunday and fill the parking lot at the church next door. Bring your kids. Bring your neighbor. Eat a pumpkin doughnut. Dip a caramel apple. Take a hayride. Make something at the craft tables. Stand around and listen to music and talk to somebody you haven’t seen in six months.
Come be a part of our village. ❤️
