☕️🐲HALF-PRICE CLEARANCE TIME!!🐲☕️

Our Naga is about to shape-shift! We chose this shape-shifting creature to represent our special limited time beans. Naga's current form is a dark single-origin Peruvian roast. However, he is about to shift into something NEW very soon (we’re super excited - details to be announced!)

To make room for Naga’s new form, we are putting the rest of our dark single-origin Peruvian inventory on clearance!

To order at clearance prices, shoot me a PM or email me at [email protected]!

WE CURRENTLY HAVE:
(I will try to keep the list as up-to-date as I can!):

🐉TWO 12-ct boxes of pods (clearance price: $8.00/each)
🐉TWO 8oz bags (clearance price: $6.50/each)
🐉EIGHT 3oz bags (clearance price: $3.00/each)

Some of these won't reach their best-by date for another month! Some have only recently passed their best-by dates. Regardless, they all will:

• Be low in bitterness and acidity
• Have a smooth mouthfeel
• Be fresher than much of the coffee on grocery store shelves
• Be ethically sourced
• Have been produced in small batches by your friendly neighborhood roaster right here in Kingsland, GA 😉

What may be different: If you have a discerning coffee palate, the finer notes that make specialty coffees unique may begin to lose some of their dimension when they pass their best-by date.

Why we roast the way we do! We use a Coffee Crafters roster, but the science and results are the same!

Why we roast the way we do! We use a Coffee Crafters roster, but the science and results are the same!

Why HOT AIR ROASTING Creates a Cleaner, Better Cup

At Oregon Coffee Roaster, we believe the roasting method matters just as much as the bean itself. That’s why we use a Sivetz hot air roasting system instead of a traditional drum roaster.

What’s the Difference?

Traditional drum roasters use a large rotating metal drum that heats coffee beans through contact with hot metal surfaces and radiant heat. While this method has been around for decades, it can also create uneven roasting, scorching, and excess smoke exposure during the roast process.

Sivetz hot air roasting works differently. Instead of tumbling beans against hot metal, the beans are suspended and roasted on a bed of precisely controlled hot air. This fluid-bed roasting process creates a more even roast with exceptional clarity and consistency.

Why Hot Air Roasting Produces Cleaner Coffee

One of the biggest advantages of hot air roasting is cleanliness in flavor.

During roasting, coffee naturally releases chaff, oils, and smoke. In many drum roasters, the beans remain in contact with these byproducts throughout the roast cycle. That can create heavier smoky flavors, bitterness, and a muddier cup profile.

With a Sivetz system, chaff and smoke are continuously separated from the beans during roasting. The result is a cleaner, brighter, and more defined flavor profile that allows the true character of the coffee to shine through.

Better Flavor Clarity

Hot air roasting highlights the unique tasting notes already present in high-quality coffee beans.

Instead of tasting “roasty” or burnt, properly air-roasted coffee can reveal:

Brighter fruit notes
Cleaner finishes
Better sweetness
More balanced acidity
Greater origin character

Whether it’s a chocolatey Central American coffee or a fruit-forward African bean, hot air roasting helps preserve the flavors the farmer worked hard to produce.

Reduced Bitterness and Burnt Notes

Because fluid-bed roasting minimizes direct contact with overheated metal surfaces, there is less chance of scorching or tipping the beans. That means:

Less bitterness
Smoother body
Cleaner aftertaste
Reduced burnt or smoky flavors

For coffee drinkers who value smooth, easy-drinking coffee without harshness, the difference is noticeable.

The Bottom Line

Drum roasting may be traditional, but tradition does not always mean better. Sivetz hot air roasting offers a cleaner, more precise roasting method that delivers a brighter, smoother, and more flavorful cup of coffee.

When the roast stays clean, the coffee speaks for itself.

Great article, and we agree. We source our decaf beans meticulously, and they easily match our caffeinated coffees in both quality and flavor.

Even if you’re not usually a decaf drinker, it might be worth a try for late night cravings (a filling, low-calorie option!) That’s why our decaf creature is the Sleepy Sandman 😉⏳

☕Do we need to treat decaf better?

James Hoffmann said on A Diary of a CEO: “The great frustration of decaf is that decaf drinkers are typically very poorly served by the coffee industry.

“They are the purest coffee consumer, actually, because they just want the flavour,” he continued. “They don’t even want the caffeine.”

While decaffeination processing continues to improve, it’s important to ask whether roasters and coffee shops are keeping up with rising standards for decaf.
