Brittany here just checking in! We are still over here roasting and shipping coffee like crazy, but yesterday Alfred said, ā€œWe should probably update our social media so that people know we are still alive.ā€ So here I am—updating social media! We are still roasting beautiful, single origin, ethically-sourced coffee (and drinking most of what we roast). May and June were crammed full of activities for our kids, but I’ll try to be updating here more often. I don’t even have any media to share, so here is our cat, Rosie, checking to see if I had finished all of my coffee this morning. (I had, and it was a delicious coffee from Guatemala available now!) P.S. She is technically not allowed on the table… don’t tell Alfred. ā˜•ļøšŸˆ Happy Summer to all of our Little Oso fans!

Bear-ly Keeping Up newsletter #2…our latest happenings:

https://www.littleosocoffee.com/littleoso/bear-ly-keeping-up-2

Greetings from your LoCo Roaster! Here’s our latest Bear-ly Keeping Up update.

What we’re working on: We are still working on finding the right time and working out the details on possibly hosting some sort of coffee tasting event…maybe. Not sure how much interest there’d be, but we’ll never know till we try it. We are also looking into finding ways of reducing the cost of our coffee. We try to keep our costs reasonable, but one of the biggest costs with acquiring our coffee is shipping. So, we are looking at eliminating that cost entirely by simply physically picking up the coffee directly from the farm or our exporters. When you see a sudden drop in cost on our coffee, you’ll know why.

Brit continues to homeschool our kids while working towards becoming the fittest woman on Earth in her division (40+ age group, brown, curly hair, married to a hispanic guy named Alfred, residing within a 1 mile radius of our home, and driving a red SUV group) while I continue to chip away at marathon training. My run lengths are getting into the crazy lengths making me second guess my life decisions and Brit’s working on getting her first muscle up, one of the most complex and challenging moves in the functional fitness realm.

What we’re watching: Besides Bluey and Jacob Collier YouTube videos, we just watched a movie on Netflix called The Miracle Club about a group of Irish women who want to visit Lourdes, France to see where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to a woman in 1858 in hopes of seeing or experiencing a miracle. It’s a movie that tugs on the heart strings. I do like an action film every now and then, but I really enjoy an inspirational movie or one that helps you appreciate life like The Miracle Club. We also recently went and saw Arthur The King in theaters, which is also a great movie about a dog and a group of adventure seekers. That’s another movie that made us appreciate our furry friends in our house.

What we’re reading: I am on a reading roll considering I can Bear-ly šŸ˜‰keep up with many of life’s projects. I am currently reading The Heart is the Strongest Muscle by Tia Toomey, a well-known name amongst the CrossFit community. She’s a 6x CrossFit Games champion. She’s a beast and an excellent role model for aspiring athletes. But, her experiences and lessons she shares apply to life in general as well. There are a few YouTube videos highlighting her success if you are interested in learning about her.

Brit is reading Watership Down by Richard Adams - a book about a group of rabbits with their own culture, language, mythology, poetry, conflict, and governmental rule. Sounds like it’s a book about reality, but with rabbits instead of people. It is an interesting-sounding book using a different means to tell a story much like how I try to educate our kids about life, but with animals instead of humans just to keep their interest. Perhaps there will one day be a book about the heart being the biggest muscle, but from the view of dogs. Maybe Brit will write it after becoming the fittest woman on Earth within our household šŸ’Ŗ!

And Ari just finished The Last Kids On Earth - book 1 by Max Brallier. He says it is about 4 kids who live through a zombie apocalypse. They are the last 4 kids to survive. They find friendly monsters who help them fight bad monsters. I will spare you the incredibly lengthy and detailed description of this book and just let you google it if interested.

Where we’re going: This one should be titled more like ā€œWhere we went.ā€ We just returned from a trip to North Carolina. We stayed in the Pisgah National Forest, which we’d never visited. Last year we visited Nantahala National Forest and Great Smoky Mountain National Park and fell in love with the area. Pisgah did not disappoint. We loved the nature walks, fishing, plentiful streams, and seeing friends we hadn’t seen since they moved there. We dream of one day having a cabin in Western NC. You can see some pictures and videos on Brit’s instagram or my super-secret, stealthy one that I am still learning how to use . Prepare to be impressed by my huge following (I think I am up to 3 or 4 followers šŸ˜Ž).

šŸŽ‰Hey coffee lovers!šŸŽ‰ Not sure which coffee to pick? We setup a coffee randomizer on our webpage with selections based off of your preferred brew method. You’ll see it on our webpage under the ā€œBuy Coffeeā€ section. We’ll limit it to just 1/2 lb bags for now. Simply pick which brew method you make your coffee with and we’ll take care of the rest.

Cheers to good coffee!

Trying something new…a way to let y’all know what’s up at Little Oso Coffee Roasters. We’ll call it Bear-ly Keeping Up. Here it goes for this week:

What we’re working on: Besides coffee roasting, tasting, and brewing, Brit is kicking butt with this year’s Crossfit Open and I’ve set a goal to run a marathon this year. Brit finished Open Workout 24.1 under the time cap doing it as prescribed, which is no small feat. I probably would have finished, but not as fast as Brittany. My marathon training has been fun, but challenging as I’m also still trying to strength train simultaneously. Need to find more time in the day to do all this without sacrificing sleep. As for coffee, we’re working on finding new coffee farms, cupping coffees (tasting) we got from Finca Alto de Abra in Costa Rica, and considering hosting a coffee tasting here at our roastery. Thinking about the logistics at the moment…so be on the lookout for more info.

What we’re watching: Somebody Feed Phil! New season came out and he’s always an inspiration to go try new places and partake in a culture/community through food. Lucky for me and the fam, I get to do a lot of this! Phil’s challenged me to put my phone down and do some old school face to face talking. I’ve made new friends in several of the cities I’ve traveled to whether they’re my coworkers or locals who happen to be lucky enough to sit next to me. Those who know me are probably thinking that’s way out of character for me, but it’s been fun.
We’re (really just me) also watching Masters of the Air. I love flying movies and this one hasn’t disappointed me yet. The B-17 is an amazing airplane along with the P-51 Mustang (world’s greatest fighter plane ever built slightly ahead of the F-16 Viper of course!). Seeing the P-51s push ahead of the B-17s reminded me of the OCA (Offensive Counter Air) Sweep mission we’d fly in the Viper. That was one of my favorite missions due to the complexity of the constantly moving point we were defending/escorting.

What we’re reading: I am reading Grinders Find A Way by Matthew Balleza. An excellent book about running making me wish I’d run cross country in my younger days. Brit is reading The Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor. It’s the 2nd book in a duology about a city that was lost…much like I am right now writing this about the book she is reading. It’s a fantasy. We have vastly different tastes in literature.

Where we’re going: My next adventure is not to Central America or Mexico, unfortunately. I’m staying mostly domestic this month, which I’m mostly ok with. The places with coffee farms are mostly mountainous and near volcanoes making it challenging to fly into and out of. I have vacation soon and we’ll be headed to North Carolina for a much needed break in the Smokey Mountains!

Home of some incredible coffee! Wish I had more time (and luggage space) to bring some home! Thankfully we still have some coffee from this beautiful city (Antigua).

The cold can’t stop us! Our micro roastery is ready to take on any weather. We’ve been hard at work getting our new roasting facility running with the help of our super talented general contractor who also completely remodeled our old house.

From acquiring the coffee and learning about the farms and farmers, experiencing each coffee’s unique flavors and aromas, and having the opportunity to share that with ya’ll is a true blessing we’re incredibly thankful for.

Thank you for supporting us through the name change, the challenges the cold weather brought, and the mostly great feedback we’ve received.

Our webpage/e-commerce store can still be accessed even with the old URL.

Our main goal in 2024 is to patiently continue to grow just a little bit while not losing sight of our passion for coffee roasting.

Cheers to great coffee!

Hello friends! If you are thinking about Christmas gifts for teachers or people who already seem to have everything, coffee is always a good idea! We have some limited edition Oaxacan that roasts beautifully. I’ve been enjoying it outside on these cool Texas mornings. ā¤ļø

Also, if you have ordered from us and wouldn’t mind leaving us a quick review on Facebook, we’d appreciate it!

Here is a photo Alfred took in Mexico a couple of weeks ago while visiting one of our local contacts (because what is a social media post without a picture, right?).

It’s been a while since we’ve posted about our coffee roasting adventures, but rest assured we’re still hard at work crafting that delicious roast!

This is our Oaxacan Double Fermentation. Super proud of how this one has turned out. This is a limited harvest and will likely be the only time we offer it, unfortunately. But it’s one of our favorites especially in pour over or aeropress brewing methods!
