PRESS RELEASE-

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (July 12, 2026) – Missouri National Guard Soldiers supported civil authorities during flood response operations on July 10 by using UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters to evacuate more than 200 children and staff from Camp Taum Sauk camp site in southeastern Missouri.

“Missouri’s aviation community trains and stands ready to respond to a variety of dynamic missions such as this one,” said Maj. Gen. Charles Hausman, the Missouri National Guard Adjutant General. “It was an honor for us to assist our Missouri emergency responders with these unique capabilities.”

Eight Missouri National Guard crews and aircraft safely transported citizens from the campsite to a designated safe location in Arcadia. The National Weather Service (NWS) declared a Flash Flood Emergency for Reynolds and Iron counties following historic heavy rainfall of from 8-12 inches overnight.

The Missouri National Guard worked alongside local and state emergency response partners to ensure the safe evacuation of those impacted. The mission reflects the Guard’s commitment to supporting civil authorities and protecting local communities during emergencies.

The Missouri National Guard remains prepared to assist throughout ongoing response and recovery efforts.
