I want to start by apologizing.
It seems the June Kids Club Birthday Cake Drawing was a bit of a mess from the very beginning. First, I didn't even have the winning child's name correct (that's what happens when I take entries while I'm out and about—not my wisest decision! Lesson learned. 😊).
Then, I was notified that the child who was drawn celebrated their 13th birthday in June. This brought to my attention that the official Kids Club rules specify the drawing is for children ages 1–12. Since the child turned 13 during their birthday month, they were unfortunately no longer eligible for the June drawing.
For that, I am truly sorry.
That being said, I want to be fair to everyone who entered and met the age requirements. Because of that, I will be holding a June Birthday Cake Re-Draw on Friday at 8:00 PM. This will give me enough time to notify everyone who entered the June drawing.
Now I'd love your input.
When I first started the Kids Club, I asked for each child's birth year. However, the paranoid grandma in me decided I didn't want parents posting any identifying information about their children publicly online. While I still feel strongly about protecting our kids' privacy, it has left me at a disadvantage because I don't know the ages of many of the children entered and have been relying entirely on the honor system.
So I'm asking for your help.
What do you think is the best way to handle this going forward? Should all entries be submitted through Messenger so a birth year can be shared privately? Is there another solution that would protect everyone's privacy while also ensuring the drawings remain fair for all eligible children?
I'm open to any reasonable suggestions. Please leave your thoughts in the comments or send me a private message through Messenger.
Thank you all for your understanding, your kindness, and for helping me make the Kids Club as fair and fun as possible for everyone. ❤️
