LET’S TALK PUERTO RICAN FOOD. 🇵🇷🤍
One thing we want to do at ATABEY is not only serve you Puerto Rican food, but also educate a little about the food behind the plate. So let’s start with something simple:
HAM.
We recently received a 2-star review because our ham was cut into small pieces instead of being served as a whole slice. And we thought… this is actually a great opportunity to educate.
So… let’s talk about that one. In Puerto Rico, ham isn’t always served as a big, perfect slice. When it comes to dishes like tripletas, sandwiches, and cubano, ham is often cut into smaller pieces so that it can become part of the entire bite. That’s why we take the time to cut our ham for the dishes we serve.
And we do that because it becomes part of the entire bite. It mixes with the other ingredients instead of being something you have to cut separately. That’s why, when a dish calls for ham, we take the time to prepare it the way we know it.
And respectfully… whether it’s a slice or small pieces, the ham is still going to taste like ham.
But that’s the beauty of food. What may seem unusual to one person can be completely normal to another. What may be new to you may have been something someone grew up eating.
Food carries culture. Food carries memories. Food tells stories. And that’s what we want to do here at ATABEY, share ours with you, one plate at a time. 🇵🇷🤍
