SIGNIFICANT SEVERE STORM THREAT TUESDAY PM ⛈️⚠️ The most dangerous time to navigate a severe weather threat is during the late-night hours, and that's exactly what we will have to do Tuesday night. Here's the latest!
⚠️ Severe Risk: A marginal (1 out of 5), slight (2 out of 5), and enhanced (3 out of 5) risk for scattered strong to severe storms have been issued for our area by the Storm Prediction Center. It will be most active between 8 PM and 12 AM with the best chance for severe weather in northern New York/Vermont/New Hampshire, including the Champlain Valley and Northeast Kingdom.
⚠️ Main Hazards: Severe wind gusts, large hail, and torrential downpours are the top three hazards we're expecting with any one strong to severe storm. Winds could gust up to 60+ mph. There's also a chance for a localized strong tornado.
⚠️ Local Impacts: Scattered power outages are likely Tuesday night along with downed trees and power lines. There's also the threat for broken glass (car and home windows) if the hail becomes big enough. Heavy rain will cause reductions in visibility along with a marginal risk for flash flooding; at most risk for flash flooding will be northeast Vermont into northern New Hampshire.
⚠️ Severe Weather Safety Tips: Make it a point to have your devices charged, flashlight batteries freshened up, and make sure your NOAA Weather Radio is working ALL before going to bed Tuesday evening. Turn the ringer/volume all the way up on your phone so you can hear a severe weather alert in the event one gets issued for your area. Lastly, set two different alarms on two different devices to ensure you wake up on time for work Wednesday morning. Stay safe and remain weather aware, friends!
