They say in your darkest moments, you find your strength. They say from heartbreak comes love. And sometimes, in the middle of all the chaos, we search for the good in the world.
Tonight, there are so many questions, so many emotions, sadness and anger heavy on our hearts. It’s hard to sit still when everything inside of you wants to do something.
As a Lebanese family, one thing we’ve always known how to do is feed people. And when tragedy strikes, that’s how we show love. So, with one phone call, we made a plan. Subs and pizzas it would be. I picked up the phone, not even sure of what exactly I needed, but the kind voice on the other end walked me through it. Before I knew it, we had enough subs to feed 170 people and 12 large pizzas.
When I told the manager at Turitto's Pizza in Inver Grove Heights that this food was going to a hospital and ambulance crew, she asked if it was going to those impacted by today’s tragedy. When I told her yes, she immediately offered us a discount. She didn’t know who we were, and I never said, but she wanted to help.
Tonight, we will all go to bed with hearts heavy and broken for the families who can’t hold their children. Our kids should be safe, in schools, in churches, anywhere. We don’t have the answers, but what we can give is love.
This is never about recognition, but tonight, I do want to shine a light on the incredible team at Turittos . In a moment’s notice, you jumped in, made the food, and helped us feed the weary. You are proof that in the middle of heartbreak, there is still kindness.
Thank you for being the good in this world. ❤️
