October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to prioritize breast health and encourage one another to take action.

For Black women, this conversation is especially important. Although slightly less likely to develop breast cancer, Black women are 38% more likely to die from the disease than White women. Inequities in access to timely diagnosis, quality treatment and healthcare resources continue to contribute to these disparities.

Early detection can save lives, but access to quality care matters, too.
Know your family history, understand your individual risk and talk with your healthcare provider about when to begin screenings. While routine mammograms generally begin at age 40, women at higher risk may need screening earlier. The American College of Radiology recommends breast cancer risk assessments by age 25, particularly for Black women.

Let's continue to look out for ourselves and one another.

Jack and Jill of America, Inc. honors the first peoples of this land, their cultures, sovereignty, and lasting contributions.

As we observe Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we remember the ancestors who endured colonization, genocide, and enslavement. We recognize the histories of resistance and solidarity connecting Black and Native communities, including those who carry both heritages.

Honoring these legacies is a year-round responsibility: listening to Indigenous voices, teaching honest history, celebrating Indigenous cultures, and advocating for justice.

What we teach our children shapes how they understand the world and their place in it.

Congratulations to Jack and Jill of America, Inc.'s Past National Program Director, Dr. Cheryl Beal Anderson, Pharm.D., MBA, on being named the 2026 recipient of the William J. Sheffield Outstanding Alumnus Award from The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy.

The college's highest alumni distinction recognizes Dr. Anderson's extraordinary contributions to pharmacy and a career spanning clinical practice, academia, pharmaceutical research and regulatory affairs.

In 1984, Dr. Anderson made history as the first African American woman to earn the advanced Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the university. Over the decades that followed, she held leadership positions with major pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer, Eli Lilly and Lundbeck, before founding ACE Regulatory Affairs Consulting, LLC.

Her continued engagement in pharmacy education, mentorship and professional development reflects a commitment to creating opportunities for those who follow.

We are proud to recognize her achievements and celebrate this distinguished honor.

The Power of Us

The Indianapolis Chapter was honored to host a bold in black affair celebrating the election and installation of our very own Mother Member, Deidre Shelby Lindsey, as the National President of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.!

Guests, national leaders, and friends from across the country gathered for an unforgettable evening filled with heartfelt toasts, sisterhood, and inspiration. A powerful highlight of the night was the presentation of a specially commissioned portrait by acclaimed local artist Deonna Craig, honoring President Lindsey’s historic vision and leadership.

Following the tributes, everyone hit the dance floor to celebrate and dance the night away to the incredible sounds of the Tony Bryant Project!

As her home chapter, we could not be prouder to stand beside President Lindsey as she leads our organization into a prosperous, impactful biennium. Here's to Empowered Mothers, Joyful Families, and Strengthening Communities.
