🌅 There is a moment just after sunrise on Bayou Black, west of Houma, when the fog hangs so low and thick you cannot tell where the water ends and the sky begins. The cypress trees rise up out of that mist like something from a dream, their knees poking through the still black water and Spanish moss trailing down like lace.

This is deep Terrebonne Parish bayou country, the heart of Cajun Louisiana, where families have fished, trapped, and run their boats through these winding waters for generations. 🛶 In the early hours it is silent except for the plop of a fish and the far-off call of a heron waking up.

A pirogue tied to the bank, coffee still warm in the thermos, and the whole swamp coming alive around you. That is a South Louisiana morning that money simply cannot buy. 🌿
