We're still processing our time in Anchorage, Alaska. Got back last week after a great trip focused on spending time with our daughter and Son-In Law. They showed us some of their favorite spots, including a fair number of breweries. And we got to spend time with many of their amazing friends. 🥰

Remembering celebrating with Dolly Parton the release of butterflies with children in May of 2019. It was a fun part of a multi-day media event, kicking off the new Wildwood Grove at Dollywood Grand Opening in Pigeon Forge. At the time, it was a $37 million addition to Dollywood.

It's been a journey I like to think of as an extremely frustrating learning opportunity. Thankfully this only happened to my own website and not a clients. After quite a bit of down time, CarolinaEpicurean.com is live and looking good on all devices. That said, let me know if you experience any issues.

We had so much delicious fun at Whisky and Ramen Anchorage Alaska!

Our server was fantastic and the guys making it happen behind the bar & in the kitchen were amazing! They created a custom Old Fashioned for John and surprised us with an extra serving of crispy pork belly.

Pisgah Coffee Roasters beans keep showing up at more coffee shops and retailers I frequent. It's been a while since I'd gone to the source for a latte. It was as good as ever. Find them at 6283 Asheville Hwy, Pisgah Forest

With so many vineyards/wineries in WNC, why would you go to recently opened, family-run Corkscrew Willow Vineyard ? Because of their deceptively unassuming refuge tucked away at 494 Big Willow Rd, Hendersonville, a winding country road between Hendersonville and Etowah, you’ll get a relaxed/chill vibe, seating for about 40+ inside and a few more outside, free range chickens and ducks (no dogs outside), scheduled live music & food truck, and good wine. The Maiz y Amor truck served up excellent food - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php/?id=61585130727267

A pond, and their property line defined by tree-lined South Fork Big Willow Creek are visible outside their building. Not-so-visible are acres of vines on their land across the street.

What you won’t get are mountain top long-range views, a big parking lot, crowds, play areas for kids (it’s adults only), and as far as I could tell, attitude.

I say “deceptively unassuming” because you might give them a try without high expectations. Our experience was one of liking every wine in our flights (unusual) and that relaxed hanging out at someone’s home vibe.

They’re pouring California wines until their vines develop. Good self-produced wines are expected from their to-date 2,000 vines - some in the ground since 2018. Except for Cabernet Franc, they’re all hybrid vines best adapted to this location. They'll continue to serve the California wines as well as their own. They also serve beer from local breweries and cider from Bold Rock.

Bill: (after a shower) Great job taking care of the clogged drain. Water went right down!
Me: (laughing) you remind me of the song we sang at Girl Scout Camp about a girl so skinny, she went right down the drain.
Bill: NEVER heard that one. 😅
Me: (singing "Ellie Mae"):

Ellie Mae, where are you going?
Upstairs to take a bath.
Her legs are like two toothpicks,
Her neck like a giraffe!
Ellie Mae stepped in the water,
To pull the stopper out,
Oh my goodness, Oh my soul!
There goes Ellie Mae
Down that hole!
Ellie Mae?
Ellie Mae?
Blub, Blub, Blub!

Not a culinary or travel post, but hopefully helpful. Bill and I have always been do-it-yourselfers, naturally falling into, he handling minor electric and me handling minor plumbing.

This time, with a very clogged shower drain, I was ready to throw in the towel (pun?) and call a plumber - UNTIL I did a little research and found something I wanted to try first. It made sense to me. And IT WORKED!

There are plenty of videos showing how to use Baking Soda, White Vinegar, and Hot Tap Water. Here are the steps I followed:

• Remove drain cover.
• Clean out everything you can with (gloved) hands, paper towel, small brush, etc.
• Pour 1 cup of baking soda directly down the drain.
• Follow immediately with 1 cup of white vinegar.
• Block the drain opening with a rag or stopper to direct the fizzing reaction downward. I used an old dish towel, shoving it into the opening.
• Wait 30 minutes to 1 hour.
• Flush with very hot tap water. Pros say don't use boiling water if you have PVC pipes as it can damage the pipes/connections.

Our drain was clogged with rock hard deposits. It took doing this 3 times to get it clear and looking pristine. Not sure what caused that. Hard water (since resolved with a water neutralizing tank)? Hair or body products? We’ll be paying attention to products we’re using and checking under the drain cover occasionally to check for any developing problems and address them.
