Two of the earliest and most prolific honeybee pollen sources in early Spring are henbit and purple dead nettle. They are easily confused. The picture on the left is henbit (notice the swirl style leaf attached directly to the stalk). The picture on the right is purple dead nettle (notice the downward sloping triangular leafs attached to a stem off the main stalk). What other bee resources are you finding today?

🐝🐝 Beekeeping🐝🐝 Split and Swarm season has arrived in Central Kentucky. Foragers are bringing in pollen and nectar—the protein and carbohydrates to raise baby bees. The nurse bees are making “swarm” cells in preparation for colony reproduction. If you see a swarm (cluster of bees hanging in a tree) or are beekeeping yourself and want to split a colony (take one or two and make 3 or 4) and need help getting the swarm to a new home or need assistance in growing your own apiary then please message me. Happy Spring 🐝🐝
