THE ECTOMORPH TRAINER
Ectomorphs (known as vata types in Ayurveda) tend to be naturally thin, with fast metabolisms and difficulty gaining weight. Because of this, personal trainers, nutritionists, and doctors who are ectomorphs often struggle to relate to mesomorphs (pitta) and endomorphs (kapha), who gain weight far more easily and respond differently to food, training, and stress. This is why I’m suspicious of male gynos. How can you relate to pregnancy or menstrual cycles unless you’ve experienced it. The most passionate therapists have done through the same struggle you have.
The Three Body Types
1. Ectomorphs (Vata)
Thin, long‑limbed individuals with fast metabolisms. They can often eat large quantities of food without gaining weight and typically struggle to build muscle mass.
2. Mesomorphs (Pitta): Naturally muscular people with well‑developed chests, shoulders, arms, glutes, and calves. Pittas gain weight easily but can also lose weight quickly when they commit to a plan.
3. Endomorphs (Kapha)
The body type most prone to storing fat. Kaphas typically do best with lower‑carb diets.
Personal/doctor/trainer rule #1: What works for you doesn’t work for other person. People are unique. This is called N=1, meaning you are the only person in the study group.
