Chik Fil A Guntersville
9-23-26 6:15pm
Crowd: light (inside)

I had a free Chick Fil A sandwich reward and decided to use itto go along with my dinner. I placed the order with the mobile app to dine inside.

I ordered a 3ctChik Fil A tenders meal with a side salad with honey mustard dressing. I also ordered the Original Chik FiI A sandwich I had as a reward. I ordered Polynesian and Honey Mustard dipping sauce and a Large Unsweetened tea. I would prefer to order a large ice water with lemon, but that option was not available on the app.

The order was delivered to the table in about 10 minutes. The salad was very cold and fresh and the honey mustard dressings is a favorite if mine and was good. The salad had mixed greens, two grape tomatoes, shredded cheddar jack cheese and roasted red peppers (in a bag). It was a very good salad. The chicken tenders were very hot and fresh with a perfectly seasoned batter. The tenders are not as big as they used to be, which is typical for the times we now live. They were very good dipped in the honey mustard and the Polynesian sauce.

The "free" chicken sandwich was the typical breaded chicken breast, with pickles on a toasted buttered bun. However, this sandwich was NOT fresh. It had been sitting a while. The chicken breast was not as large as they used to be, either. Regardless, it was not hot and it reminded me of the Chik Fil A Sandwiches you buy out of a cooler at sporting events. It WAS a Chik Fil A sandwich, but it was not a very good one. I don't think I have ever gotten a bad sandwich at this location before.

Burger King, Guntersville
9-17-26 11:30am
Crowd: Light
(Drive thru order)

There has been a lot of talk and advertising about the new, improved chicken nuggets at Burger King. Their old nuggets were possibly the worst in the business. So, I decided to give the new ones a try. I ordered the 10ct nugget meal with fries with the new Savory Sauce, the Honey Mustard Sauce and the Sweet & Sour Sauce.

The drive thru clerk was courteous and my order was ready and bagged in just 3 minutes. I pulled into a parking spot so I could try them as quickly as possible and see how fresh they were.

I opened the box and the nuggets had a nice golden brown color and looked good. I tried one without any sauce and it was light and tasty. The chicken was all white inside and seemed seasoned well. They were warm... not as hot and fresh as I had hoped they would be. They had definitely been cooked a few minutes ahead.

I tried the new Savory Sauce first. I expected it to be like a Comeback or a basic chicken sauce, but it was ketchup/BBQ sauce based with a tangy garlic taste. Not my favorite dipping sauce ever, but it was good. The Honey Mustard sauce was my favorite. A perfect blend of honey and mustard flavors. Both sweet and tangy. The Sweet and Sour Sauce was both sweet and sour with slight a pineapple flavor. Typical sweet and sour sauce. Nothing unique.

The French fries were warm (not hot) and were decent for a regular cut fry. Good flavor, slightly crispy and the right amount of salt. I just prefer my fries to be really hot. These were not

City Barbecue Huntsville
9-2-26. 11:5am
Crowd: medium. No waiting

With City BBQ being one of the newer BBQ chains in the area, I thought it was time to give it a try. The restaurant was clean and very nice inside. You order your food at the counter and they give you a number and bring it to your table. One thing I liked was that there was no prompt asking for the various tip percentages. The clerk at the counter was courteous. The server was too.

I ordered a 2 meat plate with smoked pulled chicken and smoked turkey. I ordered baked beans and cole slaw as my sides.

My wife ordered a pulled BBQ pork sandwich with a side of Cole Slaw.

The have a self service drink station (Pepsi products) and offer a variety of BBQ sauces and pickles at a small bar.

The sauce selection:
Original (tangy and slightly sweet)

Brush Fire- (spicy hot , a little sweet)

Sweet City- (sweet molasses Kansas City style)

Lo Country- (Mustard based Carolina style

Bama White ( mayo bases Alabama white sauce)

All of the sauces were good. I mixed the original and Brush Fire to create my favorite sweet heat taste.

The Smoked Turkey was tender and smoked to perfection. Very good. The pulled chicken was very moist and tender but had no smoke flavor at all. Barely seasoned. Definitely needed the BBQ sauce for it. The Cole Slaw was cold and fresh and was basically mayo and vinegar, salt and pepper. Not bad, but nothing unique. The baked beans were baked in their original BBQ sauce and were sweet. No peppers or onions. They were good, but nothing special. The plate came with a slice of perfectly buttered and toasted Texas toast. It was good.

The pulled Pork sandwich was piled high with tender, lean pulled pork with a slight smoke flavor. I prefer a little more hickory smoked flavor. We added pickles from the bar and the original sauce and it was a good sandwich.

Los Arcos Guntersville
08-29-26 6:15pm
Crowd:busy

We were seated right away and our server brought chips and salsa to the table and took our drink orders. Our server was courteous but seemed very busy.

We ordered the bean dip to go with our chips. It came out about 5 minutes later.

The chips were fresh and the salsa had a good balance of flavor and was not very spicy.
The bean dip was just an order of their refried beans with queso on top. It was very thin and while the cheese was tasty, the beans were very bland.

We quickly went through the first batch of chips and it was very unusual that it was 10 minutes before the server noticed and brought us more chips.

I ordered shrimp fajitas. My wife ordered 2 beef hard shell tacos.

It took about 17 minutes for our food to come out. The fajitas, which I have had many times before, was not super hot and sizzling as in times past. The shrimp and peppers and onions were hot, but not hot enough that I couldn't touch the plate. It came with 4 soft shells. The guacamole salad, rice, and beans that came with it were fresh. The guacamole was very good. The rice was seasoned well and was good. The beans were very thin and not a lot of flavor. The shrimp and veggies were not as seasoned as they have been in the past and it made the fajitas rather bland. The fajitas, as a whole, were just "ok".

The beef tacos had plenty of beef and cheese and the lettuce was fresh. The shells were a little soggy on the bottom. They tasted good, but we have had better at this restaurant in the past.

We are thinking our food was sitting back there ready for several minutes before our server brought it out. The server did not check on us until late in the meal nor did she offer to refill our drinks.

Bonefish Grill Huntsville,AL
08-21-26 6:00pm
Crowd: Busy

It had been quite a while since we had been to Bonefish Grill and we were really wanting some of their famous Bang Bang Shrimp...So we made the trip to the Huntsville location.

We arrived at 6pm and were immediately seated. The hostess was very nice and the server was out in just a few minutes to take our drink orders and to answer any questions we had. She was very courteous and friendly. They brought our drinks out a few minutes later and our questions were answered. We ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer and went ahead and placed our food orders.
I ordered the Wood Fired Shrimp and Scallops with Mango Salsa with Kung Pao Brussel Sprouts and Garlic Herb Potatoes.(Both were premium sides at an extra charge).

My wife ordered the Wood Fired Mahi Mahi with Mango Salsa and the Lemon Butter on the side with Jasmine Rice and the King Pao Brussel Sprouts.

Our Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer came out in 6 minutes and was hot and fresh. The crispy fried shrimp in the creamy, slightly sweet and spicy sauce served on a bed of lettuce was as good as we had remembered. It was quickly devoured. We highly recommended this appetizer.

We were also served crispy hearth bread with an excellent herbed olive oil to dip it in. It was really good.

Our meals came out about 10 minutes later. Immediately we knew that both sides my wife had ordered were not the correct ones. She received broccoli and mashed potatoes instead of the brussel sprouts and rice. They replaced the sides with the correct ones and let us keep the broccoli and potatoes.

The Mahi Mahi was hot and fresh and had a good wood fired taste and was seasoned well. The mango salsa was delicious on the fish. The brussel sprouts were small and roasted perfectly and had a spicy Kung Pao sauce with crushed macadamia nuts and cilantro on top. The serving was huge. They were the best thing on the plate. Very good! The rice was nothing special but went well with the fish and salsa.

The broccoli and mashed potatoes we got by mistake were pretty good, but nothing special.

The wood fired scallops and shrimp with mango salsa did not have much seasoning nor wood fire grilled taste at all. Had it not been for the salsa, there would not have been much taste at all. Disappointing. The garlic herb potatoes were very hot but there was no garlic, herb taste at all. Actually, I added the lemon butter sauce that came on the side of my wife's fish to the potatoes, plus salt and pepper to make them taste good.

Rock House Eatery Guntersville
8-20-26 6:00 pm
Crowd: busy

We reserved a table at one of our favorite places earlier in the day. We arrived on time and were immediately seated. However, we were seated in the back dining room. The back room is ok for lunch meetings and such, but the ambiance is not the same as either of the front seating areas. We were seated right next to the restaurant supply shelf. So the experience part of our meal was slightly reduced.

On the other hand, our server could not have been better. He was very friendly, attentive checked on us several times and his service really helped with the fact that we were in the back room.

I ordered prime Rib with a baked sweet potato and green beans. My wife ordered the red fish with a baked sweet potato and sauteed vegetables.

For starters, we were served delicious crusty bread with olive oil. It was so good!

My 14-16oz cut of prime rib was closer to an 18-20 oz cut and was cooked perfectly to my medium specification. It was a nice thick cut but didn't seem as fully seasoned as it has been in the past, but it was still very good. It was served with horseradish/blue cheese sauce and au jus. I love the blue cheese/horseradish sauce paired with the beef. The baked sweet potato was bright orange and creamy and delicious, topped with just butter. The whole green beans were cooked perfectly with just a slight crunch. Always one of my favorite meals at Rock House.

The Red Fish with the Pineapple dark rum sauce was divine. The fish was mild and seasoned perfectly. The sauteed veggies included squash, redpeppers, mushrooms, onions and zucchini and was well seasoned and delicious.

Walker's BBQ Carry Out
Union Grove
8-16-26 4:35pm
Crowd: medium to heavy
Dine In

Walker's is only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They have a huge carryout/drive thru following, but you can dine in, as well.

We placed our orders at the counter and were given a number. The employees were courteous and were busy taking care of both the counter and the drive thru.

I ordered the smoked chicken wings with baked beans and vinegar slaw. We also ordered whole catfish with a baked potato and vinegar slaw.

We waited about 15 minutes for our food to come out. they called our number and we picked it up at the counter.

The chicken wings were large and seasoned well. They smoke the wings and then deep fry them to make them crispy outside. They were really fresh and hot and very good. They really didn't need to be sauced. However, I put both their red sauce and white sauce on them. The red sauce is tangy, slightly sweet with just a tiny bit of heat. The white sauce was very good, as well with a little tanginess, as well.

The baked beans were good, They had onions and peppers and a mild bbq sauce in them. The vinegar slaw seemed to have not be made fresh made that day. It was good, but the vinegar was a little overpowering. The plate came with hushpuppies which were very good!

The whole catfish was breaded the old fashioned
way with a corn meal batter. It was golden brown and very good. The fish was white and flaky and tasted fresh. The baked potato was cooked well and tasted good.

Porky's BBQ Steak and Seafood Restaurant, Grant, AL
8-14-26 4:45pm
Crowd: light

Porky's is known for having a pretty good steak, so we made the trip up Grant mountain. It was early Friday night and we beat the crowd.

At Porky's, you order at the counter before seating yourself. I ordered the 18oz Ribeye, cooked medium, with a baked potato and a Salad with ranch dressing. I fixed my drink (they have self service fountain drinks and tea) and made my way to a booth seat. The restaurant has a clean and friendly atmosphere. Nothing fancy, but at 4:45 it was kinda quiet and peaceful.

In less than 5 minutes, the server brought out the salads. The salad consisted of iceberg lettuce (no bag lettuce, here) with fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions and cheese. It was served with a large cup of homemade ranch dressing. The salad was cold and crisp and everything was very fresh. It was a good salad.

About 8 minutes later, my steak came out. The steak, even though it was a thinner cut, covered the plate and was sizzling hot. It had beautiful grill marks and was seasoned perfectly. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium and was juicy and tender. It tasted great too! One of the best tasting steaks I have had around this area. The marbling rendered well and the flavor was excellent. The baked potato was cooked perfectly, as well, and was delicious. Even the Texas toast they served with it was perfectly toasted.

If you want a good steak at a good price, this is the place for you. Highly recommend.
