Another trip around the sun! 🎂✨

I’ll be celebrating my 63rd birthday on Monday, and this year the best gift I could ask for is time with the people I love most. ❤️

Sweet Ruby’s kitchen will be closed September 1–10 while I trade my apron and mixing bowls for birthday celebrations, family time, lots of laughs, and precious memories with my daughters and grandson. 🥰

I’m so incredibly grateful for another year of life, another year of doing what I love, and for every single one of you who continues to support Sweet Ruby’s Cookies & More. You’ve helped make this little dream of mine something very special.

💜💚💛 Now THIS is a King Cake! 💛💚💜

My customer first ordered a smaller King Cake as a trial run—just to make sure she liked it enough to order a large one for an upcoming celebration.

She did. 😍 And when she placed the order for the big one, she had one special request:

MORE GLAZE!

Well… ask and you shall receive! This beauty measures a whopping 19” x 14” and is topped with approximately FOUR TIMES the amount of glaze I normally use. I think I understood the assignment!

Sweet Ruby’s King Cake has all those wonderful Mardi Gras flavors you expect from the original—and dare I say, it tastes just as good, if not better.

One little heads-up for next Mardi Gras season: after seeing just how much time, ingredients and love go into these beauties, both my small and large King Cakes will be increasing in price next year.

But when you want to celebrate Mardi Gras (or anytime), you might as well do it BIG.

Aged to Perfection — 50 Years!

Some things just get better with age…and apparently birthdays are one of them! This custom bourbon-inspired sugar cookie collection was created to celebrate the big 5-0 with barrels, bottles, bourbon on the rocks and plenty of personality.

🍋 Lemon Meringue That Makes a Statement 🍋

There’s lemon meringue pie… and then there’s Sweet Ruby’s Lemon Meringue Pie.

Beneath those dramatic, golden peaks is a bright, silky lemon filling with that perfect balance of sweet and tart, tucked into a flaky, buttery crust. And that meringue? Piled gloriously high, cloud-soft inside, with beautifully toasted peaks and curls on top.

It’s sweet. It’s tangy. It’s ridiculously pretty. And it’s the kind of pie where you tell yourself you’ll have just one little slice… then somehow find yourself back at the refrigerator with a fork. 😂

I promised German Chocolate Macarons, and believe me—I have been working on them!

Macarons are finicky little things on a good day, but throw a different oven into the mix and suddenly you’re back in the laboratory. 😂 My last few ovens were gas, and before that I had an electric oven in Seattle. Now, in my new home, I’m learning the personality of an electric oven all over again. And chocolate macaron shells? They like to make their own rules.

I have measured, adjusted, tested, watched, waited…and basically turned into a pastry chemist trying to recreate my recipe for this oven.

But THIS batch? I am very pleased. Look at those beautiful chocolate shells and those feet! 🤎 They’re finally close to the perfection I’ve been chasing.

Now comes the really good part…turning these beauties into German Chocolate Macarons. Chocolate, coconut, pecans…you know where this is going. 😋

German Chocolate Cake is quickly becoming a Sweet Ruby’s customer favorite!

And I completely understand why. This cake is especially delicious—rich, moist chocolate cake layered with that classic gooey coconut-pecan goodness and finished with creamy chocolate frosting, toasted coconut, and plenty of pecans.

It’s decadent without being overly sweet, with the perfect combination of chocolate, coconut, caramelized goodness, and nutty crunch in every bite.

Every time I make one, I’m reminded why German Chocolate Cake has stood the test of time. And judging by my customers lately, this one may be earning a permanent spot among the Sweet Ruby’s favorites!

Some cakes are good… this one is “just one more slice” good. 😋
