There are two kinds of people.
The ones who say, “I’ve always wanted to open a restaurant.”
And the ones who actually have. 😅
From the outside, it looks fun.
You create a menu.
You cook great food.
You hire some staff.
People show up.
You make money.
Simple……right?
What most people don’t see is that restaurants are the MOST operationally complex business you can own.
You’re managing inventory that’s constantly expiring.
Balancing food costs that change weekly.
Scheduling staff who all have different availability.
Handling customer complaints.
Fixing equipment that always seems to break at the worst possible time.
Marketing every single day just to keep people coming back.
Making payroll.
Paying Suppliers.
And somehow finding time to actually lead your team.
Then you wake up and do it all again tomorrow.
And somehow I’ll do it all over again in a heartbeat.
Most people think running a restaurant is about making great food.
In reality, making great food is just the ticket to get into the game.
Building systems, leading people, understanding your numbers, marketing consistently, and making hundreds of decisions every day…. That’s what keeps the doors open.
So next time someone says, “I could run a restaurant,” just smile.
Because until you’ve lived it, it’s almost impossible to understand just how much happens behind the scenes.
