MAMA'S SWEET TEA·WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 2019·
This story is years in the making. Having been in the junking/flea business for many years we’ve set up my Flea & Easy at many pop up shows over the past few years and in those years food trucks have always been part of the scene. At a particular show, I asked my husband to fetch me some sweet tea and be sure to buy it from Mama’s because it is the best (
just like I make at home). During our ooo’s and ahhh’s over the tea, I mentioned to my husband that if we ever became a food truck/trailer vendor, it would be just like Mama’s Sweet Tea. What has happened within the last four weeks is nothing short of Divine. When one says “it was meant to be”...Divine is what we knew just happened. Thankful for a friend giving me a heads up, Mama’s Sweet Tea showed itself to be FOR SALE! We decided to check into it....I mean....all they can do is turn us down! But they didn’t! And in a matter of weeks, we purchased Mama’s Sweet Tea from Elaine and George Davis of Edmond, OK. They have poured their hearts and souls into this business, made it successful, earned the trust and respect of vintage shows far and wide, became friends with many people along the way and maintained their down-to-earth appreciation for their customers, friends, and success. We, Rick and Brenda Hoyt, are now the owners of Mama’s Sweet Tea. Elaine and George (Tommy)) left us big shoes to fill. But it is our intention to continue the successful business they created in 2013 and to maintain the respect they lovingly earned along the way. We both have backgrounds in the restaurant industry having grown up with parents who owned/operated them. Rick’s background is with Suzie Wong’s Rice Bowl, Johnson, Arkansas, closed in 1985, but in business for about 25 years. This was the very first Asian themed restaurant in Northwest Arkansas. Visited by many of the locals, UA students, professionals, well-known politicians and people far and wide. Rick’s personal background is nearly 50 years of public service in law enforcement. Finally retiring in March 2021. Brenda’s background is with Sahara Restaurant and Motel, DeWitt, Arkansas, in business for many years as well, but personally owned by her parents for about 8 years, who also owned a local sporting goods business along with a family farm that began with her grandfather in Arkansas County, Arkansas. We love our story. And now, we’ll love making history with it!
