Let us elevate your event with unforgettable dishes and a taste of the island! Chef Díaz’s passion for cooking began early on, inspired by his Puerto Rican parents and their love and respect for quality ingredients and tradition. From a very young age, Michael enjoyed helping out in the kitchen as much as possible. Growing up with four other siblings, it was always quite busy when it came to prepa
ring meals for the entire family. His parents would always host family dinners, annual Pig Roasts, and festivities all year around. Every event had a nice spread of traditional Puerto Rican dishes. Their cooking skills were appreciated by so many friends, family, and neighbors. So much that everyone would always tell them that they should open up their own restaurant. But little did they know. His parents always had a dream of opening up a restaurant, and with the grace of God - ‘Latin Flavor’ was established in 2003. This was the beginning of what would be many years working at and running a family-owned and operated business. At only 12 years old, Michael began helping his parents and learning the operations of a business. 7 successful years went by, and the restaurant was striving and needed to expand in order to accommodate more patrons. Michael graduated from High School in 2009, and began his studies at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. A year later, Michael’s parents had divorced and his Dad had stayed with the business. The restaurant’s name was later changed to ‘Sabor de mi Tierra.”
Michael wanted to focus on his education, and decided to leave his family restaurant after working there for 12 years. Living on campus and away from home and the restaurant, Diaz sought opportunities to further develop his own creativity. Diaz’s culinary repertoire flourished in college, where he developed and refined his own culinary techniques. He hosted many catering and fundraising events on campus, as well as food sales. He continued cooking and catering events all throughout his undergraduate career. In the Spring of 2014, he graduated from West Chester University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelors of Arts & Sciences in Spanish Language & Literature. Upon graduation, he continued his education at the same institution. It was there where he extended his skills to all outlets on campus and began catering for students and administrators. Later in the Fall of 2017, he graduated with his Masters of Science in Higher Education Counseling & Student Affairs. Internal connections, landed him a position as General Manager / Business Development & Marking Manager for an Indian Restaurant. His interest and appreciation for diverse cultures and cuisine grew throughout his time there. Today, Chef Díaz can be found spearheading new projects, (both inside the kitchen and out), interacting with his audience, and sharing his favorite recipes! Chef Díaz was established on October 26th 2020.
