About 3 weeks ago I got super busy and forgot to check under my silkies. They have fooled me many times by acting broody but not sitting on eggs.

Well I am pleased to say the hatching has begun! Pictures to follow soon.

I what’s been happening on the farm? Well a lot lately actually. The babies that were hatched in february are starting to lay. while we were away on vacstipn a few hens from original flock got broody ( they want to be moms) So we let them sit on what we’re thought were a clutch of eggs to find out they were not even sitting on eggs. these girls didn’t budge all day long for 2 weeks straight. talk about disappointment. so we decided to hatch a new batch. those babies are now 2 weeks old and cuter than ever.

Lots happening on the Chicken Ranch.

The babies that hatched in February are finally starting to lay eggs. When a chicken starts to lay eggs at fort they are really small. Hopefully in the next week they will reach normal size.

We have a fresh batch of fertilized eggs that have hit the incubator and are set to start hatching July 15th.

Our next big project is having meat birds.

Our teenagers are doing well and set to start laying end of May 🙂

Update on Pan Singing Chicken Ranch. These chicks were hatched here on 2/2. They are doing well and are almost ready for the outside. Just waiting on warmer night temps. They should be laying the last two weeks of may- anytime in June. we hope to begin introducing them to our original flock of girls right before that.

These warmer temps= better consistency with egg laying.

The Pan Singing Chicken Ranch is expanding!!! We currently have 8 ladies ready to get out of the brooder and into their transition coop ( chicken tractor). By May/June they will be with the original crew and laying eggs. When that happens we will be purchasing meat birds/ increasing the flock as needed to keep up with demand.
