This highly customized table set is one of a kind!

The centerpiece is a 3ft by 7ft monolithic style table. It’s made from oak and features a satin finish over a translucent sandy colored stain. My favorite design element is how the robust legs meet the 1.5” thick top - not flush, but the top is under beveled!

A really unique aspect of this table is its height. We added about an inch and a half to standard table height since the family was taller. Everything is custom!

The chairs are made from maple hardwood and feature black stain with a translucent black clear. You’d think that would make them look painted, but the subtle maple grain still shows thru and still feels like wood.

This set really compliments the room and pulls the entire house together!

A long time friend reached out for a table and chairs a couple years ago. He and his wife had a specific vision for it too - a two toned table and chairs set. That was a first for me!

So I went to go see their space. Very open and modern style space, but still traditional. Their flooring was a sandy khaki color and their ceiling in the dining room was black. Honestly I had doubted the choice of black for the chairs. Shh don’t tell them that.

We went thru different table designs, measured the dining room, and settled on a table. One thing that’s really cool with custom woodworking: their family is tall, so they had the table made just a bit taller than normal! And then we settled on a chair design too.

It wasn’t until I actually delivered it that the vision came to life. The sandy/khaki and the black chairs REALLY pulled the room together. Bold, but not the kind of bold that will look obnoxious in a decade 😂 I was blown away!

They love to host family gatherings during the holidays, and probably play way too many board games during the week. And they love their custom table set!

Top Secret Mole People are not what the subject of this post was supposed to be about, but my 1995-diagnosed ADHD brain found a page who posts Lidar scans of places, and one of the posts was about Nike missile locations hidden all around the suburban United States. That led me on a research tangent about the Cold War. What the heck is a Nike missile? Why so many of them?

Anyway. Turns out the Top Secret Mole People were just military officers with boring jobs who hoped they wouldn’t start World War 3. I may have named them mole people in my own head.

And did I mention I found all this fascinating 3-AM-Scrolling-Lore out while I’m actively procrastinating boxing up this walnut cutting board to send to Texas - it’ll get there, trust the process.

Hi, I’m Trey. And that’s sort of how everything works around here. The cutting board did NOT get packed up yesterday, but I will get it sent out today!

I guess that’s what happens when a full time woodworking father of 4 in central Louisiana is surrounded by dusty racks of lumber, too many tools with sharp blades, and a social media feed.

Forget the packing tape, I wanna glue some contrasting grain! But first I’ll scroll for a minute. No don’t. Instead, I’ll call my wife to come see one particularly wonderful looking board. After all, SOMEBODY will be looking at it the rest of their life, and I want to make sure it’s thoroughly appreciated. It’ll be featured on my next cutting board for sure.

And yes the cutting board is now boxed up and labeled. It will be headed to Texas, where incidentally at least some of the mole people worked.

Our most popular table design, the trestle. And this one is the original.

And we can see why it’s so popular. Because trestle tables make a statement while being very practical and very beautiful. We make our trestle tops nearly 2” thick. The legs are 4” thick - solid hardwood too, no fillers.

And the best part of the trestle design is 2 fold: You can position chairs or benches anywhere while having near unlimited leg room. AND. If you opt for benches, they can be pushed entirely under the table for storage.

This particular table is 8ft long, 3ft wide, seats up to 10, has a matching bench, and features American Black Walnut as the wood of choice. It’s finished to a gorgeous satin sheen with a natural hardening oil, Rubio Monocoat. What we love about this finish in particular - it can be touched up by the owner. More than that, it has zero plastics.

It’s our absolute favorite table design to build. And we’d be delighted to build one for you.
