Dear friends of Ron Raiford and his beloved community of Dexter.

Ron passed away yesterday after an incredibly brave fight against esophageal cancer. Always true to himself and his love for life he stressed quality of life over quantity of life. He surrounded himself with college friends on Saturday night, whom he called from his hospital bed the week before asking them to come to the house and surround him with their friendship and the music he loved.

Family surrounded him always and he was able to share memories, his witticism and love with all. His angels Amy Raymond & Sarah Dombrowski were my rock since he entered hospice care and we were with him when he left us last night.

NAUTI MI ON THE RIVER CELEBRATING 1ST YEAR IN BUSINESS!: Join them for a full day of customer appreciation sales, giveaways, prizes, this Sunday, April 24th from 1PM - 9PM. “Sunday you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of their new, soon to debut Chartered Tiki Boat and a naming contest, for a free 3 hour tour, will be held!”They opened last April with a promising staff of smiling faces who had never scooped a bit of ice cream or created a sundae, and now they are making Crazy Shakes and wonderfully yummy masterpieces. The gift store is now filled with customer favorite items, with new items arriving weekly. You never know what you might find for that next birthday, anniversary, or thank-you gift! They are quickly becoming the local source for all gift-giving ideas. Their kayak, canoe, SUP rentals were a huge hit, as were their riverfront fitness classes, paint and pour classes and visiting food trucks. All of that, and MORE will be back this summer - bigger and better! They are located at 9260 McGregor Rd, Pinckney, MI right next door to the Trading Post. DEXTER DAIRY QUEEN TO OPEN THIS TUESDAY: Buster bars are back. Spring is on its way. The DQ will be opening their 69th season in Dexter this Tuesday, March 1st.. Since opening on May 16th,1953, under the ownership of Duane Luick, the Dairy Queen has created memories and experiences for generations of area families. Now under the ownership of Mike Hoelzer & his daughter Heather, those traditions continue. The Hoelzer family are so grateful to be a part of the Dexter community and for all of the support the store has received over the years. They are celebrating the 2022 return by giving out $5 gift cards to lucky customers randomly every hour throughout the day! Hours: 12-9pm daily

DEXTER CREAMERY SET TO OPEN TOMORROW: Great News Dexter! They will be opening for the 2022 season tomorrow at noon. They are thrilled to be serving up some of the best Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt, Shakes, Smoothies and Lattes in Michigan. Over the course of the last five years they have consistently expanded their offerings and this year is no different. They have some amazing new flavors to introduce and will even be launching a new product line later in the year. They can't wait to see you all again soon! For me.....this weekend will consist of Moo-Ville ice cream and a half gallon of A&W root beer for a great root beer float.

ICE SCULPTURE FESTIVAL RETURNS TO DEXTER THIS SATURDAY: Another great event will take place this Saturday in Dexter. Thanks to Lisa Teahen, District Manager for Aubree’s & the Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce, they will be bringing the ice festival to downtown Dexter! Come on in for "Dexter Ice Fest" this Saturday, January 22nd in the heart of Dexter at Monument Park starting at 11am. Over 70 local business have sponsored carved displays. While in town have some diner or grab some take out from the local restaurants.

DEXTER MILL NOW HAS REINDEER FOOD IN STOCK: Just in time for Santa to hit your house this Christmas Eve, the Dexter Mill now has reindeer food in stock so you can give them a snack as they hit your house. Don't be one of those that only sets out milk and cookies for Santa...... those 8 reindeer will need to have something to eat to get the job done. Stop in now until Christmas Eve and have one of Santa's elves get yourself a free bag of reindeer food and give everyone on the sleigh team a Merry Christmas.

TIANI BODY CARE OPEN NEW BUSINESS IN TOWN: Big welcome to Violet Raterman as she has opened Tiani Body Care here in Dexter. Her new business is located on Baker Rd. just to the left of the post office. Her primary goal is to create safe and quality products made with local ingredients. They source many fresh ingredients from farms/small businesses and use non-toxic ingredients that are suitable for sensitive skin. They use pure essential oils to scent all of their products and avoid the use of all synthetic fragrances. They have even found a few essential oils that are distilled on farms in our very own state!She works with a variety of local farms and small businesses to create several products made with a high percentage of Michigan grown ingredients. Their small team works hard every day to continue to climb towards their goal of increasing our percentage of locally sourced ingredients.

About The Owner: Violet Tiani Whitney: Tiani is a very special family name and originated from Italy. The Tiani side of her family has taught her about living a healthy and honest life, the value of hard work, and many of my core values in life. Growing up on the Whitney farm, in the outskirts of Dexter, she learned at an early age to appreciate the value of working with, and supporting the local community. She dreamed of starting her own body care company from a young age and has been working towards combining her passion of producing natural products with supporting the community she lives in. She is very excited to become more involved in our Dexter community, share her passion and SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES!

DEXTER LIONS CHRISTMAS TREES GO ON SALE THIS FRIDAY AT 9am: Ready or not it's that time of year again and the Dexter Lions will be back out selling trees. We will be opening the lot this Friday from 9am to 8pm. Weather should be perfect for you to get your tree home now and ready to be put up. The candy cane tree will be stocked and ready for kids of all ages. Cash or Check.....no credit cards please. Last year the Lions Club sold over 1,200 trees. We have tree stands, wreaths & roping as well.

Thank you to the Men's Swim Team, Dexter Robotics, Dexter Football, team, Men's Lacrosse, Cross Country, Wrestling, Honor Society,Competition Cheer Team,Girl Scouts & Boy Scouts and the Dexter Community Players plus all the volunteers for helping to unload the trees and set up the tree lot. DEXTER MILL BIRD SEED SALE STARTS THIS WEEKEND: The 42nd Annual bird seed sale will start tomorrow November 20th and run thru the 27th. Stock up and save on bird seed for the winter. The biggest savings will be on their own mixes; Wild Bird, Fancy and Cardinal. All Bird Feeders will be 20% off. The Mill's bird seed is made from locally sourced farmers here in the Dexter area and mixed onsite. In a recent poll conducted 9 out of 10 birds preferred the bird seed from the Dexter Mill. While you're there, pick yourself up some Dexter Mill Coffee or a wide range of other local products from milk, eggs, honey, butter and a range of different meats. They also sell a great Bloody Mary mix from Nixon Farms and local syrup from John Cares. Leo will be working the counter and greeting the customers as they enter the store. You may also run into Rosie the pig or maybe even Murphy the goat while you're there.

DEXTER CIDER MILL SET TO CLOSE NOV. 24TH FOR 135th SEASON: Your last chance to grab yourself some cider and donuts is closing in quickly. Their last day will be Wednesday, November 24. Regular hours Wednesday- Sunday 8-5 until then. Love the smell of the cinnamon donuts when you walk in the door. For 135 years the Dexter Cider Mill has been a mainstay here in town with the best cider & donuts around. It's the oldest continuously operating cider mill in Michigan. DEXTER CREAMERY SET TO CLOSE THIS SUNDAY FOR HOLIDAY BREAK: The Dexter Creamery would like to announce their last day of the 2021 season will be this Sunday, November 14th. After careful consideration they have decided to take a break again this winter due to multiple factors; staffing shortage, rising product costs, product shortages and a desire for a holiday break for key staff are all things we considered. This time will allow them to revamp the restaurant and prepare to make 2022 an even better year. Chris and the staff would like to thank you to all of the customers for a wonderful 2021. Please stop in and get your final fix of the Creamery before they close this Sunday. They are planning to reopen mid February.
I want to thank Chris and the entire staff for all that you have done over the last 18 months when this community needed you the most. You started by converting your business into a small convenience store to help meet the basic needs of Dexter residents when covid started, to reopening this year and keeping everyone safe. You showed us what community leadership looks like. You deserve a break.......a small one. Take care, stay safe and enjoy the holidays and your time off. See you in February.
