CASA BONITA SAVED!!!
We are SO excited about the Casa Bonita announcement from South Park!

After hearing about some positive aspects of their plans, we decided to drop our objection in exchange for some meetings with them. We could not be more thrilled with their choice for an executive chef - Dana Rodriguez, who was actually our first thought last year when we first started thinking about kitchen operations. She is amazing!!

We absolutely believe that we were successful in our endeavor to Save Casa Bonita! With the leadership of Andrew Novick, our extensive efforts made it known that Casa Bonita needed to be saved, that it should be under new ownership and that the input of the community is important.
We got so far as attaining investment $$ and making a viable offer. We spoke at length about wanting to bring it into the 21st-century and how diversity, equity, inclusion as well as accessibility and authenticity are vital aspects to the success of Casa Bonita.

We have met with South Park a few times now, and we think they are on the right path so far. We hope to be involved, so that the future of Casa Bonita is positive and successful.

So many articles about Casa Bonita! Just to clarify, since some people do not read the articles - we are not opposed to South Park owning Casa Bonita, but we are opposed to Zeppelin Development being a part of it. They have been working with the landlord for months, planning to try to take Casa Bonita through their lease violations. It's too bad that South Park teamed up with the Zeppelins and not us. In the sale motion, there is grandiose language about it being an "arm's-length" offer and the "offer is in good faith, without fraud, collusion or an attempt to take grossly unfair advantage of other bidders.” This is why we are objecting. If South Park wanted to buy it free and clear, they could have just put in a larger bid to begin with and not allowed the landlord to coerce the owner or create an unfair marketplace. If the judge approves the objection, then it could go to auction and it would at least be a fair market.

Save Casa Bonita, a group of local fans of the landmark Lakewood eatery, have filed a legal motion in bankruptcy court to block a pending sale of the restaurant to the creators of South Park after …

A lot of stories coming out about Casa Bonita today! Channel 7 in the 5 p.m. hour, Channel 4 in the 10 p.m. hour and KDVR is coming on at 5 p.m., although they already posted a LONG interview online... this explains a LOT! Feel free to post this when you see folks (or trolls) on the Westword and KDVR facebook post comments!

The Casa Bonita saga continues as the group “Save Casa Bonita” announced that it objects to the sale of the business to the South Park creators.

We finally had an opportunity to talk to South Park last week (through their attorney in the bankruptcy) and told them why we would be much better operators of Casa Bonita than their partners, Zeppelin Development. You know, the ones who run The Source and Zeppelin Station? They are not restaurateurs (probably since City Spirit Cafe, which closed in the 1990s) they are landlords to restaurants and give minimal discounts on buildout for equity stakes in small, lean businesses. They have had lawsuits with multiple tenants, and we have heard SO MANY awful things about them. They colluded with the landlord of Casa Bonita to create an unfair marketplace and coerced the owner into selling to them to save a few hundred thousand dollars because of their lease violations. South Park could have offered many more millions of dollars and just made a fair deal - We filed an objection to the sale through the bankruptcy - Now it's up to the courts to decide.
Oh, and their lawyer's response to our proposal exposing the horrible history of the Zeppelins: "They don't want to make any changes to what they're doing in their current plan". If they get it, I hope they don't destroy it.

The group still wants to buy the restaurant.

They were either out or discontinued for quite a long time, but Merhia was wearing her pink one the other day and started a frenzy for them!! Support local artists, get yours before they’re gone again!!

This interview sums up where things are at right now. I know everyone is cheering on Matt and Trey right now, but we were so close to making the acquisition ourselves when they got to the owners. It would be great to work with them, and hopefully they will contact us.
There is still a lot that is unsure with the bankruptcy and where things will go. We will continue to they to "save" Casa Bonita until we are sure that our ideas and concerns have been heard and the deal is done.

Casa Bonita tonight as part of the Mixed Taste lecture series collaboration between MCA Denver and Denver Center for the Performing Arts. If you get a virtual ticket, you can participate live, or watch it later, but I believe you need to get your ticket before it starts tonight (7 p.m.)
