And another successful event for the DRHS Culinary Arts Program, a career pathway in the SFDRCISD CTE Department, in conjunction with the Philip Mahl Memorial Kitchen & Del Rio Coincil for the Arts. Thank you Del Rio Rotary Club for this great learning experience and the opportunity to serve you.

Another successful Valentine's Day Dinner in the books for the Philip Mahl Memorial Kitchen and Del Rio Council for the Arts. We had 5 very satisfied couples enjoy the following menu:
Appetizer: Tomatillo & Cucumber Gazpacho w/ Prosciutto Wrapped Shrimp
Entree: Ribeye Steak with Lobster tail served w/ Pasta Puttanesca, Italian Marinated Zucchini, & Sauteed Mushrooms & Tomatoes
Dessert: Strawberry & Chocolate Marble Cheescake w/ Strawberry & Basil Coulis.

Alright Del Rio peeps I am pleased to report that our tamalada class went extremely well. Check out the pics and keep an eye out for future classes. Our next class will be an Adult Omelet Class call Omelets and Mimosas on the 4th of January. If there are other classes that interest you please post them in the comments section and we'll work on making them happen.

Getting ready to do a tamalada class at the Firehouse today. 20 eager students will learn how to keep this dying family tradition alive. We will be making pork, chicken, veggie, and sweet tamales today. Stay tuned for photos as the day progresses.

The Philip Mahl Memorial Kitchen will be hosting a tamalada and tamale making class this Saturday at the Firehouse Art Gallery from 10a- 1p for a cost of $20/ family. Each family will take home 3 dozen tamales of their choice in any combination. We hope to see you you there. Keep a family tradition alive and sign up at the Firehouse Art Gallery Tuesday- Friday from 10a-5:30p

Whoooo, alright alright alright, Day 2 of camp is in the books. We designed our own pizza plate, we made homemade ice cream for milkshakes, and we did a little gardening planting seeds and quickly getting back inside due to the heat 102°F wow! Here is a photo recap of yesterday...

Day 1 Session 2 in the books we painted our ice cream cups, made empanadas, and worked in the garden a bit. There is still time to sign up your kids for the next 2 days it's just $20 a day for either session whichever works for your schedule. Stop by the Firehouse and get your kids involved. Tomorrow's agenda is as follows for both sessions:
Paint your own Pizza plate
Homemade ice cream milkshakes
Gardening 102: planting seeds

1st day of our annual Kids Cooking Camp in progress. Our agenda for today was: design your own ice cream cup, fruit empanadas, & gardening 101: composting. Now to get ready for session 2 this afternoon for our next batch of students. We still have room available for either session if you want to sign up your child. Just come by the Firehouse and sign them up $20 per day for the morning 10-1 session or afternoon 2-5 session. We still have 2 days of fun ahead of us.

The kitchen will be open tonight during the First Friday Art Walk beginning at 7 pm. Board member Natalie Granatelli, "The Coffee Lady," will be demonstrating multiple coffee brewing methods, including the Kalita Wave pour over, Chemex, AeroPress and French Press. Come try them out for yourself and take your coffee with you while you enjoy the art exhibits!
