Breaking news from the es**rt boat: the dolphins have taken over the broadcast. 🐬🎙️

Announcer Doug Weems was mid-call at this year’s Catalina Classic when a pod showed up and started clearing the water — so naturally, the coverage got interrupted for the better story. 32 miles of open channel, and this is what stops the mic.

This is the Catalina Classic. Since 1955, still full of surprises. 🌊

The 49th Catalina Classic, and the channel gave us a good one! 🌊

Blue sky, light wind, water about as kind as 32 miles of open ocean ever gets — and dolphins running alongside the fleet like they’d signed up too.

Finn Aune brought it home in 5:27:03 to take Men’s Unlimited. Water salute from the lifeguards, rainbow in the spray, the pier packed three deep to bring him in.

Since 1955, the same crossing: Isthmus Cove to the Manhattan Beach Pier, prone the whole way. Forty-nine of them now, and it still comes down to the es**rt crews up before dawn, the paddlers grinding through the back half hours after the winner touches, and the volunteers who keep the oldest race in the sport alive.

Congrats to everyone who can officially call themselves FINISHER. 🏝️➡️🏖️

Deep Into the Channel and Still Fighting

No beach in sight, no finish line yet — just two paddlers deep in the channel, still trading blows for position mile after mile. This is what it looks like when the Catalina Classic starts to hurt and nobody’s backing off.
