There is a reason why Better Homes and Gardens lists fireplaces in the top ten additions to a home to increase value. Whether it is with resale in mind or simply because the look and warmth of a fireplace appeals to you, a masonry fireplace addition is almost always considered a smart decision. Stone is incredibly versatile and is more so today then it has ever been in our history. With manufactur

ed stone coming in veneer, thin brick, tile and a host of other products the look and beauty of masonry has become affordable to any home owner. Here at Bear Stone Masonry Joe has worked with everything from 700 pound field stones pulled directly out of the northern Minnesota earth to manufactured tiles. In the past stone was always more of a rustic addition but now, with so many options, stone can also be a modern masterpiece. Whether you're looking for exterior siding, an outdoor fireplace or kitchen, an interior floor to ceiling fireplace or a surround in your bath or shower, masonry today is only limited to your imagination. Just putting the finishing touches on this interior fireplace.
This was a fun job last summer for Near And Streeter Custom Builders.
The stone is a blend of Full veneer Fondulac Stone. The chimney and fire place were that same blend but in thin veneer.
A huge Thank-you to Exteriors Direct Midwest for the stone.
And also to Near And Streeter Custom Builders for having us do the stone work.

And the big job on Thunder Lake is complete as far as the masonry goes. A huge thank you goes to all the guys that came and worked on it during the project. Jordan, Adam Hunter, Kevin, Will, Thomas, Chris, Jeremy, Gary, John, Randall and Sam.
This was a very trying job as all the stone was extremely heavy and thick. Every piece was chiseled and hammered to fit. The Mesabi Granite caps on the retaining walls were around 400 pounds each piece. The big hearth stone came in at 4800 pounds and over 14 feet long. The small hearth stone was around 2800 pounds. Definitely a hard job. But we got it done and it Turned out Amazing!

Here it is! This flagstone seating area with fire pit was just completed by us today. The back wall will have a granite counter top installed shortly to cap it all off. There will be room for wood storage underneath the top along with room for a refrigerator and grilling area on top. Ill get back to get some pics once the countertops are installed.
This one turned out amazing.

The starting of a flag stone sidewalk and and fire pit area. There will also be stone benches with limestone caps, a wood storage area and small stone privacy wall. First concrete goes down thanks to Jeremy and Chris. Then the stone work can start in a month or so. Gonna wanna keep an eye out for the finished product on this one!
If the house in the back ground looks familiar that's because it's a project I finished 5 years ago already. Man time sure fly by.

The big Thunder Lake job is almost complete! Just need a few last touches on the interior stone work once cabinets and stairs are in. A huge thanks goes to the masons who helped on this job. Gary, Jordan, Adam, Hunter, Randall, Jeremy, Chris,Tommy, Kevin, Will, and Big John. There is no way this would have been completed with out all of your help. The stones on this job came out of Arkansas. A type of granite that is super hard to work with. Every stone that was placed on this job was hammered, chistled and cut to fit. Definitely one of the hardest jobs I've been on.
But it turned out Awesome!
I'll get finished pics of the inside once the job is complete.

Definitely one of the harder jobs I've been on. This job on Thunder Lake has been going on for over a year now. I have been there laying stone since last August. I've also had the pleasure of having 7 of the best masons I know helping on this job. It's been a blast working with everyone. The end is in sight now for us.
Over 200,000 pounds of stone have been laid on this job. The hearth stones on the full masonry fire place are gigantic. The largest weighing in at over 4400 pounds. The smaller one is 2800 pounds. Still waiting on the steel I beam mantle to be installed along with the steel ceilings in acouple areas so we can finish up the inside. Finished pics coming soon!
