Thank You, Caffe' Apropos, from a friend...
When I was seeking a new place to live way back in 2004, my decision to move to Harrison West was strongly influenced by having a brand new coffee shop down the block called Caffe' Apropos. Little did I know how much that coffee shop would influence my life.
One evening, shortly after moving to the neighborhood, I was introduced to the owner of Caffe' Apropos through a mutual friend. That's part of the charm of living in Columbus: everyone is just a mutual friend away from knowing anyone. And Anton grew to become an incredible friend to me and my family.
But the fun really started with Friday night wine tastings at Caffe' Apropos. They were a regular destination for my future spouse and me since the time we began dating. Eventually, she began pouring at the wine tastings and we began to count those around us at Caffe' Apropos as our dear friends.
As time went on, we celebrated engagements, weddings, birthdays, holidays and many other gatherings with this amazing group. My warm memories of our wedding in 2009 (located all the way in Jamaica!) wouldn't be complete without Anton standing up for us, and our dear friends from the cafe showing their support and love by traveling such a vast distance to share that moment.
My spouse also started a trend at Caffe' Apropos. After we had our first child, her responsibility of pouring at the wine tasting transitioned to another dear friend, who then became a mother and transitioned her responsibility to another dear friend, who then became a mother, and so on... There's no doubt that 'magic' was in the air!
Even as life changed and we moved to the suburbs to raise our children, we still made it to Caffe' Apropos. Often, at the request of our little ones, we would visit 'Uncle Tony's Cafe' for a smoothie after a bike ride into the city. It really didn't matter when we arrived or who we were with, there was always a feeling of warmth and familiarity on the corner of Michigan and Third. Caffe' Apropos just felt like home.
Thank you, Anton, for having the courageous heart to bring us together with your vision for a neighborhood cafe. Caffe' Apropos will always have a special place in ours.
