I’ve started and stopped writing this more times than I can count because, truthfully, I didn’t know how much of my personal life I wanted to share. But I’ve always tried to be transparent with the people who support me and my business, and right now, I feel like transparency is important.
Last week, I found out I was pregnant.
And earlier this week, I miscarried.
In such a short amount of time, I went from excitement, planning, and imagining another little life joining our family… to grieving a baby I never got the chance to meet.
And somewhere in the middle of all of those emotions, life didn’t stop.
I’m still a mom of three who needs to be present for my babies. I’m still a wife who wants to be present in my marriage. I still hold two full-time jobs, and I’m still the woman behind K’s Catering & Meal Prep, trying to answer messages, prepare orders, show up for events, take care of customers, manage a business, and somehow still find enough of myself to give to the people waiting for me at home.
For a long time, I convinced myself that being strong meant I could handle it all.
Keep working.
Keep showing up.
Keep saying yes.
Keep pushing through being tired.
Keep smiling.
Keep going.
But this past week reminded me that I am human, too.
I can love what I do and still need rest.
I can appreciate every customer and still have boundaries.
I can be a hardworking woman and still admit that sometimes it becomes too much.
And I can be grateful for the business God has blessed me with while also recognizing that my family and my well-being have to come first.
Most of my customers have been incredibly understanding, patient, and compassionate during one of the hardest weeks I’ve experienced. I will never forget that kindness.
But I’ve also realized that not everyone will understand when I have to choose myself or my family—and I’m learning to be okay with that.
Because at the end of the day, when the food has been served, the tables have been cleared, the invoices have been paid, and another event is over, I still have three children who need their mama. I still have a husband who needs his wife. And somewhere underneath all of these responsibilities, I still have to take care of Tenesha, too.
So I’ve made a decision that honestly hasn’t been easy.
Going forward, K’s Catering & Meal Prep will only accept TWO weddings per month.
Once those two wedding dates are booked, I will close wedding bookings for that month.
I will continue accepting some smaller events, pickup orders, and delivery orders, but those will also be limited based on my availability and what I can realistically handle.
This isn’t me giving up on my business.
It’s me choosing not to lose myself while building it.
I’ve worked incredibly hard to build K’s Catering into what it is today, and I’m proud of that. But I’m beginning to understand that success isn’t measured by how exhausted I can make myself, how many events I can squeeze onto a calendar, or how many times I can sacrifice time with my family just to avoid telling someone “no.”
Sometimes success looks like knowing when enough is enough.
Right now, I need more moments with my children. More time with my husband. More room to breathe. More time to heal. More time to simply be me instead of constantly being everything for everybody.
I love catering. I love creating beautiful experiences for people. I love seeing something I started continue to grow.
But I love my family more.
And after this week, I’ve become even more aware that tomorrow isn’t promised, our bodies deserve to be listened to, and the people we love deserve more than whatever is left of us after we’ve given everything to everyone else.
To every person who has supported K’s Catering, booked me, recommended me, prayed for me, checked on me, or simply shown me grace—thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I hope you’ll continue to support me as I enter a season where I’m learning that I don’t have to do everything to still be successful.
K’s Catering & Meal Prep isn’t going anywhere.
I’m just learning to give my family—and myself—the same love, time, dedication, and energy that I’ve spent years giving everyone else. 🤍
With love,
Tenesha
