Small Business PSA

There has been a lot of conversation lately about what it really means to "support local."

It's an important conversation—and one worth having.

When you choose to spend your dollars with a local marketplace, farm hub, or small business, you should absolutely expect transparency. You should know where your products come from, who created them, and whether the people behind them are being treated fairly.

Those aren't difficult questions.

They're the right questions.

Since Farm Hippie opened in 2019, we've believed our responsibility extends far beyond simply selling local products. We've always believed our role is to help local producers grow.

That's why we've never hidden how we operate. Our commissions are clearly outlined before anyone joins us, and every vendor signs an agreement knowing exactly what to expect. Partnerships only work when they're built on trust.

We also believe that the spotlight belongs on the producer—not us.

When you walk through our doors, we want you to know who baked the bread, harvested the vegetables, bottled the honey, raised the beef, crafted the pottery, or made the soap. Those names matter. Those stories matter.

Our greatest success isn't keeping customers to ourselves. It's introducing people to local growers and makers they may never have discovered otherwise and helping create relationships that continue long after they leave our stores.

Not every business operates the same way, and that's okay. Every business owner has to choose the model that reflects their values.

These are ours.

We believe in transparency.

We believe in fair partnerships.

We believe in giving credit where it's due.

Most of all, we believe that when local producers succeed, our entire community benefits.

If I never sponsor/donate in our town again just know there are reasons...

"Change may not always bring growth, but there is no growth without change."

I have owned my kitchen in Collinsville for 3 years. In those three years I have learned alot about running a business in a location that seems like they don't want you there...and let me be clear, I am not talking about my community. Collinsville is filled with some of my biggest supporters, my regulars, my friends 💙 you all keep my dreams alive and motivate me to keep going! Unfortunately, it is the people that are supposed to support us, promote us, or at the very LEAST... learn to say our name, better yet the product I'm actually selling..

*at this point I am convinced it is deliberate*
